🚀 Exciting News! The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (#EIT) announced the launch of 16 Innovation Hubs across Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe at its conference "The Next Decade of Innovation for the Future of Europe" in Budapest to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT RIS). This is an important step towards increasing regional competitiveness and driving economic growth. This initiative aims to bridge Europe's regional innovation divide and support local innovators and entrepreneurs. The EIT Community Hubs, part of the EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT RIS), will foster collaboration among businesses, educational institutions, and research organisations. These hubs will be a gateway to Europe's largest innovation ecosystem, helping local innovators scale their innovations and bring new products and services to market. With over 700 projects supported, this initiative has already helped launch more than 500 products and services into the market, showcasing the power of collaboration and innovation. IADP Expands Its Network to Belgium We are pleased to announce that IADP is actively expanding its network of partners to Belgium. Recently, we hosted a dynamic meeting at Techlane in Ghent with Johan Bil (Techlane Ghent), bringing together 40 passionate professionals from various fields of innovation for an afternoon rich in insights and groundbreaking ideas. Johan Bil started the session with an engaging introduction to Techlane Ghent, showcasing its features and developments and demonstrating how it has established itself as a leading force in the Belgian innovation landscape. Paul Jansen (Arup/IADP) and Jacques van Dinteren (IADP) then shared their expertise on areas of innovation. Paul presented compelling research on the typology of innovation areas, provided a robust conceptual framework, and explored critical trends that are shaping the future. Jacques tackled two essential topics: first, how to shape the profile of an innovation area effectively, and second, the essential conditions that an innovation district must meet to succeed. He pointed out the necessary shift towards thematic profiling of innovation areas. He cautioned against the mistake of adopting the concept of an innovation district merely as a means to kickstart urban renewal projects. Following these powerful sessions, participants had the opportunity to stretch their legs and join Johan Bil and Bruno Gadeyne on an exclusive tour of Legend Biotech's clean rooms and Universiteit Gent's clean rooms for digital technologies. It was a unique opportunity to experience these high-tech facilities up close! We wrapped up the afternoon with a vibrant networking reception, where attendees engaged in meaningful conversations and shared their experiences. Turin has been designated as the European Capital of Innovation for 2024-2025, a recognition that underscores our city's commitment to fostering innovation and sustainable development. The award, announced by the European Commission during the #iCapitalAward ceremony in Lisbon, highlights the crucial role that cities play in shaping local innovation ecosystems. Over the past few decades, Turin has evolved from Italy's industrial heart into a centre for technological, social, and environmental innovation, driven by open innovation and a proactive approach to urban challenges such as climate resilience and talent retention. Turin is recognised as a leader in innovative practices, reinforcing its status as a hub for urban development and creativity in Europe. The success of Turin's bid is a testament to the strong partnerships between Comune di Torino, local businesses and research institutions. The city's academia played an important role in positioning Turin as a place for urban innovation: with its top universities and research centres, such as Politecnico di Torino and Università degli Studi di Torino, ESCP Business School and Fondazione LINKS, Turin was ranked among the top 35 global ecosystems for recruiting tech talent according to the Genome Startup Ecosystem Report 2024. The EIT Community RIS Hub Italy, located in Milan, serves as a centralised space connecting local stakeholders with Europe’s largest innovation ecosystem. This hub strengthens #collaboration between businesses, educational institutions, and research organisations, while supporting local entrepreneurs and talent in education, business creation, and innovation. This initiative is part of the EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT RIS), designed to bridge Europe’s innovation gap. It also aims to increase the participation of Italian innovators and provide them with networks and resources to turn ideas into impactful solutions. 📍 What does this new hub offer? ▪️ Centralised access to information on EIT programs and services. ▪️ Political and technical support for local authorities. ▪️ Physical spaces for collaboration among innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs. ▪️ Italy’s hub joins a network of over 20 EIT RIS Hubs across Europe, reinforcing the institute’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable #innovation.
