🌟 Accepting Awards with Intention and Integrity🌟
When it comes to receiving awards, it's crucial to maintain a balance between recognition and ethical considerations. Here are some essential tips to navigate this aspect of professional acknowledgment:
1. Focus on Intent, Not Just Reputation:
- Beyond the surface, delve into the award's intent. Evaluate if it truly acknowledges your accomplishments or serves as a mere organizational PR tactic.
- Reflect on why you were chosen and the impact of your work to ascertain the award's genuineness.
2. Accept with Gratitude and Humility:
- If the award resonates with your values and reflects your genuine efforts, accept it graciously.
- Show gratitude not only for the award itself but also for the chance to continue making a positive impact.
3. Use the Platform Wisely:
- Awards often bring visibility. Utilize this platform to spread positivity, narrate your journey, and spotlight meaningful work.
- Seize the opportunity to amplify your message by discussing the cause, project, or initiative that led to the recognition.
4. Stay True to Your Values and Integrity:
- Uphold your values steadfastly. If accepting the award conflicts with your principles, reconsider your decision.
- Remember, your reputation is shaped by consistent actions, not just by a single accolade.

What are your core values and do you live by them every day?
We literally live by them and use them on a daily basis. My business partner and CEO Erik J. Olson recently started the Core Value Awards here at our companies.
Each quarter he sends out a handcrafted award to each team member that was voted by their peers. Not picked by management or the owners. Voting happens via kudos points on a daily basis which is unique on its own (< Ask me about how we do that)
Our core values are Transparency, Quality, Urgency, Winning, and Passion.
How do you work yours into every day?
There are organizations and colleagues you have the opportunity to work with from whom you learn every single time. As I head to the airport fresh off time with her staff team, I need to give a shout out to Michelle Mills Clement, FASAE, CAE, RCE.
No one would argue the importance of values and culture when it comes to many aspects of an organization - and especially a staff team. All too often values are words that appear on paper, are rarely discussed, and only brought up in ‘accountability’ moments when something has gone wrong.
If we want our people to seek to live the culture we say we want there has to be more than accountability - there has to be recognition. Michelle introduced that intentional recognition today in a way every #association should emulate.
All staff were invited to nominate fellow staff who they think displayed living each value at excellence along with a sentence or two of why they were nominating their colleague. At the advance dedicated time was carved out to not just award a single individual for demonstrating excellence in how they embodied each value but to read every single nomination, that every single staff member received from their peers. That means for every value 8, 11, even 15 (!) individuals were recognized.
We aspire towards that which we see recognized. I have no doubt that the memory of this award ceremony will stick with the CAR staff for months to come, and there will be even more nominations next year.
The approach to recognition was beautiful, brilliant and simple.
Anyone interested in the details of how to create a similar experience within their own staff should connect with Michelle. After all, if we don’t intentionally build the culture we want to see, the accidental #culture we will experience is an unnecessary gamble.

Theater Alliance was so pleased to join Booz Allen Hamilton at The Anthem for their Booz Allen Excellence Awards! The talented team of Theater Alliance artists and youth "brought the magic" to the evening of WOW led by Natalie Ade, Kari Merkel, and team.
Arts organizations get asked to perform at these kind of events all the time - and as an artistic leader, we get asked to make those decisions. For me, the question always comes down to #values. Does the organization align with our values of integrity, diversity, and excellence? Does the organization value artists? Does the organization live their values? With #BoozAllenHamilton, the answer was a resounding YES.
Even in the first conversation about the event, we didn't talk about what they needed or how to make all their dreams come true on a tiny budget. Instead, we talked about what they believe in and what we believe in - we talked about the WHY of our organizations. That is what makes a great collaboration and I'm grateful!

Does it make it less worthy or successful ?
When you see a lot of people getting recognition, awards, praises, promotions l you may think...
Why them not me?
Am I not good enough?
Am I not successful?
While simultaneously you are happy for them and you celebrate them
You feel left out, unseen, un heard.
You wonder if you've missed the mark.
You wonder what you could have done differently.
Let me tell you...
Nothing is wrong with you.
Nothing has gone wrong.
Nothing is missing
Outside recognition doesn't make you a better human being, more worthy, more successful.
Outside recognition is a bonus.
Sometimes, you also have to ask for it.
ie promotion
Get out of your own way.
Get out of your head.
Get out there.
Be you, do you. Have it all should you wish to!
What if you could impact people's lives, your industry , your life without needing a proof or recognition for it..except seeing it on people's faces and in their lives.
PS: Do you want it all? Would you like to receive an award if so what for ?

GreenSquareAccord has announced receiving 254 nominations for their Gold Star Awards, describing this as an impressive 42% increase over last year’s entries. However, this claim seems somewhat underwhelming, especially considering their workforce size and the upcoming expenditure for the awards ceremony.
To put this in perspective, with an employee base ranging between 1,000 and 5,000, the 254 nominations represent only about 5.08% to 25.4% of their total staff. Last year’s nominations, calculated to be around 179, indicate a low participation rate.
Moreover, it is important to note that these nominations are solely from staff members, with no input from customers or residents. This exclusion is disheartening, particularly considering the crucial role that customers and residents play in the organisation’s operations. Their feedback and recognition would provide a more comprehensive and authentic measure of performance and service quality.
When considering the costs associated with organising and hosting an awards ceremony, including logistics, venue, awards, and lost productivity, one must question the efficiency and impact of this exercise. The expenditure seems extravagant and not necessarily reflective of broad recognition across the organisation.
Given these figures and the lack of customer/resident involvement, it's crucial to consider whether the awards genuinely enhance morale and recognition or if they simply serve as a costly tradition with limited reach. In light of these numbers, the resources allocated to the Gold Star Awards might be better invested in more impactful employee and customer engagement initiatives, or better yet spent making the homes of their residents safe, warm and dry.
We’ve received 254 nominations for our Gold Star Awards, an impressive 42% increase on last year.
Our awards are an important opportunity for us to recognise and reward the colleagues and teams who go above and beyond and enable us provide a great service to our customers.
Our final ceremony will take place on Wednesday 3 July 2024. We can’t wait to crown our winners, good luck everyone!
Receiving an award is far more than a recognition of personal accomplishments; it serves as a profound testament to the support, guidance, and collaboration extended by numerous individuals and organizations who played an essential role in making this achievement possible. Each milestone reached on this journey has been shaped by shared efforts, insights, and encouragement from colleagues, mentors, friends, and family who have provided unwavering support at every step. This moment of recognition signifies not just the culmination of hard work, but also the dedication and passion fueled by these connections and shared aspirations.
In such moments of honor, gratitude becomes more than a mere courtesy; it becomes a deeply heartfelt expression, a reflection of the countless individuals who have offered their time, wisdom, and encouragement. It acknowledges the mentors who provided invaluable guidance, the team members who contributed their skills and collaboration, and the leaders who fostered an environment where excellence could thrive. Expressing gratitude is a reminder of the collective strength and dedication that fuel success. It is a privilege to stand on the shoulders of giants, and this award is as much a celebration of their support as it is of any personal effort.
Moments like these underscores the importance of humility and the understanding that no achievement is solely one’s own. They reinforce the truth that behind every success story lies a network of individuals whose efforts and sacrifices have created opportunities and inspired growth. Expressing gratitude becomes not only an essential courtesy but also a necessary act of recognition for everyone who has contributed in ways both great and small. As this award is accepted, it is with the acknowledgment that it represents the shared journey, one enriched by the contributions and goodwill of many.
