Antibiotics are used in factory farms primarily to prevent disease and enhance productivity. In crowded and often unsanitary conditions, animals are at high risk for infections, prompting the widespread use of antibiotics, even when the animals show no signs of illness. 💊 The extensive use of antibiotics in livestock agriculture contributes significantly to antibiotic resistance, a pressing public health crisis currently responsible for approximately 1.2 million deaths globally each year. In fact, about 73% of all medically important antibiotics are used in animal agriculture, indicating a systemic issue within this industry. 💉 This practice poses significant risks to human health, as antibiotic-resistant bacteria can be passed from animals to humans through direct contact and the consumption of infected meat. Transitioning to a plant-based food system would help mitigate the public health risks associated with antibiotic resistance. 🌱 👉 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/d3wJi_95 🎥: VeganFTA / vegan_activism Clips: chrisshoebridgefilm / weanimals Others spotted on the.girlwholovesanimals / galapagos_marc / DM for credit #health #antibiotics #antibioticresistance #farming #factoryfarming

Effects of Parthenium hysterophorus: * Contact with the plant causes dermatitis and respiratory malfunction in humans, and dermatitis in cattle and domestic animals. * The main substance responsible is parthenin, which is dangerously toxic. * Bitter milk disease in livestock when their fodder is contaminated with Parthenium leaves. * Side effects after ingestion of any part of plants cause skin inflammation, hay fever, asthma, burning and blisters, breathlessness and choking, allergic rhinitis, black spots and diarrhoea. * Among other allelopathic effects of the species, the presence of Parthenium pollen grains inhibits fruit setting and germination in several crops. Control: * Light infestations of Parthenium hysterophorus in cultivated fields may be hoed or weeded by hand if labour is available at acceptable cost. * Generally the application of herbicides is expensive and often harmful; Paraquat sprays may be applied while the weeds are young. Glyphosate is not effective against this species. * The most satisfactory and promising means of practical long-term control are biological. * The best-established control organism so far is a beetle native to Mexico, Zygogramma bicolorata (Mexican beetle).

In addition to the potential adverse health impact of harmful algal blooms (HABs), the summer months can also be a concerning time for Naegleria fowleri amoebic infections. N. fowleri is usually found in freshwater lakes, but is also something found in municipal sources like tap water and freshwater pools. Ingesting the N. fowleri doesn't typically cause illnesses, however inhaling it via the nasal passage can lead to serious infections that almost 100% fatal. That's because this otherwise harmless amoeba 🦠 can end up in the spinal fluid and cross the blood brain barrier, resulting in Meningoencephalitis. Most of the times the individual isn't cognizant of the potential cause of their initial symptoms, and by the time they end up at the ED, it's too late. It's also important to be aware of potential exposure in tap water-- especially if you use it for sinus irrigation. That's why it's important to boil tap water first before doing a sinus/neti pot flush... some people boil the water, but forget that they shouldn't use tap water to cool down the warm water... https://lnkd.in/gD8uXVrb

Could farmed #salmon become #vegetarian? 🤔 🐟 World's first #genetic overview of Atlantic salmon gut #microbiota could pave the way for switch to plant-based #aquaculture feed, according to researchers. 🔬 The groundbreaking research, led by researchers at NMBU - Norwegian University of Life Sciences and published in Nature Microbiology, offers critical insights into how gut #microbes help salmon digest #nutrients, studying 211 types of microorganisms from both wild and farmed salmon. 💬 “Before introducing plant-based feeds, we need to understand what happens inside the salmon’s gut to optimize the nutritional benefits,” said lead researcher, Sabina Leanti La Rosa. "This knowledge could lead to innovations in aquaculture and the development of new, more effective feeds for better #fishhealth, #sustainability, and #nutrition in #farming systems," 💡 Read more details here 👉 https://lnkd.in/d_s5MbWS
