It was great to be in Kenya this week with Moving Minds Alliance, examining power dynamics and shifting our understanding of international development.
In the face of complex global challenges, the traditional approach to foreign assistance is no longer enough or relevant. Too often, well-meaning aid is imposed from the outside, failing to recognize the unique needs, values, and solutions within the very communities it aims to support.
To create lasting change, we must shift the paradigm and prioritize the voices and agency of those who are directly affected.
This requires trust, direct and catalytic funding, capacity building, and education to ensure displaced and vulnerable communities become architects of their own success.
This is not a call to do less; it’s a call to do it differently. The future of aid lies in shifting toward a model of true partnership. By respecting local context, elevating diverse perspectives, and supporting grassroots initiatives, we must give people the power to drive transformative change on their own terms.
Just wrapped up an extraordinary three-day convening that epitomized the Moving Minds Alliance's commitment to building a stronger network.
From November 13-15, our global network united with a mission of advancing local leadership, policy and financing of holistic nurturing care for children and caregivers affected by crisis and displacement everywhere.
As a critical force in early childhood development in emergency settings, this year's gathering was more than just an annual meeting; it was a transformative experience of collective vision-building as we explored leverage points for supporting locally led and sustainable humanitarian action.
The energy and commitment from our members are truly inspiring. Together, we're not just talking about change, we are reflecting and actioning what needs to change in the system and the role we play as an alliance, organization, and passionate professionals working in the early childhood development field.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who is contributing their time and expertise to the MMA, our network is stronger because of you!
