Canceling a job interview on a short notice can be uncomfortable and awkward for job seekers, executive recruiter Jack Kelly writes in Forbes. From getting cold feet to receiving a more favorable offer, there are various reasons for a cancelation. However, it's important to demonstrate professionalism and communicate your decision to avoid burning bridges or losing out on future opportunities, he says. Provide an advance notice to the interviewer, citing the honest reason for your withdrawal from consideration. Apologize, maintain a polite tone and express gratitude, Kelly adds. Job interviews can be stress inducing! So good to see that one employer, John Lewis, has decided to publish job interview questions for all roles on its website. johnlewis feel that sharing interview questions with candidates before they are interviewed will make candidates feel more comfortable during the application process so they can feel more confident. “We’ve published our interview questions to allow candidates to prepare and confidently demonstrate what they can do, which gives us the best chance of finding the right person for the role.” https://lnkd.in/e3rrm-93 In a recent LinkedIn / People Management magazine web poll 67% of people agreed that organisations should follow John Lewis' lead and make their job interview questions public https://lnkd.in/eeb-wQUV I am wholeheartedly in favour of this. Interviews should be about finding the best candidates for jobs. Putting people under exam style pressure can be a barrier to people performing at their best. What are your thoughts? #jobinterview #recruitment #stress #beyourbestself

This is interesting! Interview questions to be published in advance of the interview itself, giving candidates a chance to prepare answers and (hopefully!) show themselves in the best possible light. Why has this taken so long!! Why would you not want people to perform at their best?! We've all been there - a job interview for a job you are desperate to secure. Questions being fired at you, you rack your memory for the best possible answer, given only seconds to think. You say something. It's ok, it's not great and when you reflect on it later, you think of a hundred better ways you could have answered that question. You don't get the job. The person who did is clearly better at recalling information and articulating answers under the pressure of an interview scenario. This might be an essential part of the role. Or it might not. Has the employer employed the best candidate for the role? Maybe not. Has a neurodivergent candidate been given an equal opportunity to perform at their best? Again, possibly not. Could they do the job? Probably! Do you, as an employer. publish your proposed interview questions in advance? If not, is this a change you would consider making? Well done John Lewis & Partners 👏 👏 👏 #equalopportunities #interviewtechnique #hrconsultancy #SME https://lnkd.in/e2JY7VrQ
