Regenerative: Tending to or characterised by regeneration, relating to something growing or being grown again. Regeneration in landscape architecture goes beyond beautification—it’s a crucial process of restoring ecosystems and revitalising land. It’s about intentionally considering the eco-system services that nature provides for support long-term ecological balance and healthier urban environments. By repairing damaged or neglected environments, we promote biodiversity, improve soil health, enhance water management and aid in community health & wellbeing. 📍 Zululami Estate #landartstudio #landscapearchitecture #regeneration #nature #design #ecosystemservices #resilientlandscapes #ecosystemrestoration #wellbeing #health #soilhealth

Here's a clip of Oliver speaking at Grand Designs on a panel with Kevin McCloud. The theme shared here explores the potential of approaching new housing development in a more wholisitic and integrated way. Designing neighbourhoods which are ecologically designed to: - Manage water responsibly by Collecting, cleaning and storing for the homes and gardens. - Enhance landscapes in harmony with nature providing long-term maintenance food solutions. - - - Build homes which passively capture heat and regulate temperature and ventilation by effective orientation and material use There are ways how we can utilise nature-based principle to build truly smart-homes designed to last and leave a abundant legacy. These topics are just a few key parts of a new way of we could be approaching how we build communities with more responsibility, setting the scene for regeneration and strong resilience. 🌿✨ #GrandDesignsLive #KevinMcCloud #EcoHousing #SustainableLiving #ResilientCommunities #RegenerativeDesign #PermacultureDesign #EcologicalArchitecture #GreenBuilding #FutureOfHousing #WaterManagement #FoodForests #Agroecology #ClimateSmartBuilding #NatureInspiredDesign

Everything under the sky When asked to define what landscape is, this is my reply. It goes beyond the built environment. It’s the land, Soils, Water, Plants and wildlife, People, And the forces and processes that interact with them. They aren’t defined by city and countryside, built and unbuilt. They’re all connected. Regenerative design goes beyond the red line of the site Leaps the city boundary And connects all living things. We need to widen our understand of ‘development’, Understand and take part in policies and decisions that shape all landscapes, Including the other 90% of the UK that’s not built. Because we all share the same sky. #landscapearchitecture #urbandesign #healthandwellbeing

🌱 "What if every city corner was a garden?" Imagine a world where concrete jungles bloom into vibrant green spaces. Urban gardens and green roofs aren’t just pretty—they improve air quality, reduce heat, and bring communities closer. As cities grow, so does our need for these pockets of nature. 🤔 This made me think: How can we incorporate more green spaces into our cities—and our lives? 💡 What’s your favorite urban green spot or an inspiring initiative near you? Let’s exchange ideas and plant seeds of change! #Sustainability #UrbanGardening #GreenCities #GreenBalance

Vertical gardening is the future of town architecture
Imagine waking up to the sound of birds chirping, surrounded by lush greenery, and breathing in fresh air every day. That's the power of biophilic design in creating harmonious communities. Bosco Verticale in Milan, is a great example. It’s a vertical forest that houses approximately 15,000 plants and over 90 different species of trees and shrubs. Not only is it a beautiful sight to behold, but it is also capable of absorbing 30 tons of carbon dioxide every year, which improves air quality and reduces the urban heat island effect. Personally, I believe these type of project should feature in all of our major urban areas. Who else wants to live in a community that embraces nature? #biophilicdesign #harmony #community #urbanforest #rewilding Repost: Scott Waters

Why do we care for people who help us, but forget to care for nature — the very thing that keeps us alive 🌿? We breathe its air, drink its water, and eat the food it provides. Yet, most of us don’t live for nature the same way it lives for us. When someone helps us, we’re quick to show gratitude. So why don’t we treat the natural world the same way? Some people argue against integrating nature into our cities because of the maintenance involved. But why do we see caring for nature as a burden? Shouldn’t we be grateful for the chance to give back? After all, a greener environment makes our lives healthier, our cities more livable, and our future more secure. What do you think? Shouldn’t we see giving back to nature as our responsibility? Let us know what you think BIOTONOMY #biotonomy #naturebasedsolutions #sustainablecities #architecture

World Biodiversity Day celebrates the beautiful variety of living things that inhabit the Earth. The theme for 2024 is “Be part of the Plan,” a call to action to halt biodiversity loss and preserve the conditions for life on earth. At Living Roofs, Inc., we take this charge seriously and believe rooftops are a smart way to infuse biodiversity into our cities and communities. Green roofs provide habitat for many kinds of insects and birds—species that don’t ask for much yet deliver a ton! We also believe this green roof is a magnificent example of how biodiversity is beautiful. In the heart of our bustling cities, often referred to as concrete jungles, we find a peculiar sense of beauty. It's a landscape where human creativity and order replace the inherent chaos of nature. But is this sense of beauty just a mirage, a fleeting illusion that masks the absence of nature's vibrancy? As we navigate through these urban landscapes, we must ask ourselves - how can we cultivate a vibrant nature within our cities? How can we reimagine our urban spaces to be more encompassing, more reflective of the diverse tapestry of life that thrives beyond the city limits? The answer lies in decentralization. By decentralizing our urban planning and design, we can create spaces that are not just about humans, but also about the myriad other species that share our planet. We can foster a full spectrum of life, from the smallest insects to the largest trees, creating a truly vibrant and dynamic urban ecosystem. This is not just about aesthetics or a sense of connection with nature. It's about recognising that we are part of a larger web of life, and that our cities can and should reflect this. It's about creating urban spaces that are not just liveable, but also sustainable and resilient. So, let's challenge the notion of the concrete jungle. Let's envision and create cities that are as vibrant and diverse as the natural landscapes they inhabit. After all, nature is not just something 'out there' - it's right here, in our cities, waiting to be nurtured and celebrated. How do we get there? Urban planning, green infrastructure, and innovative solutions are key. Share your ideas for fostering a more ecologically balanced future for our cities! 🐾 #UrbanEcology #SustainableCities #NatureInTheCity #pawsweb #science #research #sustainability #onehealth #urban #ecology #people #animals #waste

The Hunger for Space: A Costly Feast This striking image captures a harsh reality of modern urbanization—our cities, represented by the towering buildings, are devouring the very forests that sustain life on Earth. As urban landscapes expand, they often do so at the expense of nature, consuming vital green spaces in an insatiable quest for more living and commercial space. At Sheher Saaz, we recognize the importance of balancing urban growth with environmental preservation. This visual metaphor serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences when development is pursued without regard for sustainability. The forests being swallowed by these monstrous structures symbolize the alarming rate at which natural habitats are being sacrificed in the name of progress. We are committed to fostering urban development that coexists with nature rather than competes with it. Our goal is to create cities that are not just concrete jungles but living ecosystems that nourish both people and the planet. Let’s rethink our approach to urbanization and ensure that our hunger for space doesn’t come at the cost of our environment. Message: The expansion of our cities shouldn't mean the destruction of our forests. At Sheher Saaz, we believe in a future where urban growth is balanced with environmental stewardship, creating spaces where both nature and humanity can thrive. Let’s make choices that prioritize sustainability and ensure a greener, healthier world for future generations. . . . . . #SustainableDevelopment #UrbanPlanning #EcoFriendly #GreenArchitecture #EnvironmentalStewardship #SustainabilityMatters #FutureCities #NatureConservation #SustainableLiving #UrbanDesign #ConsciousLiving #GreenFuture #ResponsibleGrowth #UrbanSustainability #EcoInnovation #ForestPreservation #SheherSaazUK #BuildForTomorrow #NatureFirst #EnvironmentalAwareness #SheherSaaz
