Here's a clip of Oliver speaking at Grand Designs on a panel with Kevin McCloud. The theme shared here explores the potential of approaching new housing development in a more wholisitic and integrated way. Designing neighbourhoods which are ecologically designed to: - Manage water responsibly by Collecting, cleaning and storing for the homes and gardens. - Enhance landscapes in harmony with nature providing long-term maintenance food solutions. - - - Build homes which passively capture heat and regulate temperature and ventilation by effective orientation and material use There are ways how we can utilise nature-based principle to build truly smart-homes designed to last and leave a abundant legacy. These topics are just a few key parts of a new way of we could be approaching how we build communities with more responsibility, setting the scene for regeneration and strong resilience. 🌿✨ #GrandDesignsLive #KevinMcCloud #EcoHousing #SustainableLiving #ResilientCommunities #RegenerativeDesign #PermacultureDesign #EcologicalArchitecture #GreenBuilding #FutureOfHousing #WaterManagement #FoodForests #Agroecology #ClimateSmartBuilding #NatureInspiredDesign

Regenerative: Tending to or characterised by regeneration, relating to something growing or being grown again. Regeneration in landscape architecture goes beyond beautification—it’s a crucial process of restoring ecosystems and revitalising land. It’s about intentionally considering the eco-system services that nature provides for support long-term ecological balance and healthier urban environments. By repairing damaged or neglected environments, we promote biodiversity, improve soil health, enhance water management and aid in community health & wellbeing. 📍 Zululami Estate #landartstudio #landscapearchitecture #regeneration #nature #design #ecosystemservices #resilientlandscapes #ecosystemrestoration #wellbeing #health #soilhealth

Urban Heat Island effect is a growing concern in our cities. Imagine a city cooled by natural air conditioners! Developing lakes can combat urban heat, enhance biodiversity, and create vibrant recreational spaces. Let's prioritize the integration of these natural elements in our urban landscapes for a healthier and more resilient future. #UrbanCooling #SustainableLiving #GreenCities #LakeDevelopment #UrbanPlanning #ClimateAction #Biodiversity #MEP #McDBERL https://lnkd.in/gvDCKAU8 #SustainableDesign #Sustainability #SunStudies #SolarAnalysis #Architecture #GreenBuilding #UrbanPlanning #MEP #McDBERL

Europe's Largest Vertical Garden: A Living Proof That It's Possible! 🌿 All it takes is courage and commitment to redesign our cities for a healthier, climate-friendly future. The Kö-Bogen II project in Düsseldorf, Germany, is setting new standards in urban planning and climate protection. With 30,000 Trees Spanning 8 Kilometers, this incredible building is like a vertical forest in the heart of the city. This building – or more accurately, this ecosystem – does more than provide space for people. It absorbs CO2, filters pollution, and reduces temperatures in the surrounding area. The plant-covered walls act like natural insulation, saving energy, improving air quality, and providing a home for local wildlife. Most importantly, it brings life back into the heart of the city. Designed by christoph ingenhoven architects, this project shows how we can transform our urban landscapes into healthier, greener places. This isn't just a building - it's proof that we can make our cities better places to live. And it all starts with the courage to think differently about how we shape our urban spaces. At BIOTONOMY, we are inspired by projects like Kö-Bogen II and excited to see more cities embrace Nature Based Solutions that bring real benefits to both people and the planet. Thank you to Christoph Ingenhoven and his incredible team for being true pioneers and having the courage to bring such an inspiring project to life. The challenge is real, but so is the opportunity. Let's use this opportunity to transform our cities beyond our imaginations. Would you like to see a vertical forest in your city? Share this inspiring project in you network and show everyone that it’s possible – and that it’s already happening. #biotonomy #verticalgarden #sustainablecities #naturebasedsolutions

Discussing the reuse of abandoned vernacular villages in Asir In my view, the heart of the global debate on a sustainable future intersects profoundly with the theme of building reuse. I've come to see the abandoned historical buildings in Asir as invaluable resources within the circular economy and as vital components of our vernacular communities' cultural heritage. Navigating the barriers and complexities of accessing this untapped resource for adaptive reuse has been a journey. But I firmly believe that by raising awareness and fostering proactive community engagement, we can overcome these challenges. Viewing cultural heritage as an ongoing process, I advocate for a deep connection between the physical remnants of a culture and their contemporary social, cultural, and economic relevance. Our project “Reinventing Asir” illustrates how the reuse of historic buildings can breathe new life into an abandoned village. Our design solutions aim to balance the renewal of buildings' functions with their sustainable performance, all while involving the community in decision-making processes. It's clear to me that with relevant research, innovative ideas, and a participatory approach, adaptive reuse can be a powerful tool for passing on the cultural heritage of this unique region to future generations. #adaptivereuse, #circulareconomy, #heritagebuildings, #sustainablearchitecture, #saudiprojects, #saudivision2030

The Hunger for Space: A Costly Feast This striking image captures a harsh reality of modern urbanization—our cities, represented by the towering buildings, are devouring the very forests that sustain life on Earth. As urban landscapes expand, they often do so at the expense of nature, consuming vital green spaces in an insatiable quest for more living and commercial space. At Sheher Saaz, we recognize the importance of balancing urban growth with environmental preservation. This visual metaphor serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences when development is pursued without regard for sustainability. The forests being swallowed by these monstrous structures symbolize the alarming rate at which natural habitats are being sacrificed in the name of progress. We are committed to fostering urban development that coexists with nature rather than competes with it. Our goal is to create cities that are not just concrete jungles but living ecosystems that nourish both people and the planet. Let’s rethink our approach to urbanization and ensure that our hunger for space doesn’t come at the cost of our environment. Message: The expansion of our cities shouldn't mean the destruction of our forests. At Sheher Saaz, we believe in a future where urban growth is balanced with environmental stewardship, creating spaces where both nature and humanity can thrive. Let’s make choices that prioritize sustainability and ensure a greener, healthier world for future generations. . . . . . #SustainableDevelopment #UrbanPlanning #EcoFriendly #GreenArchitecture #EnvironmentalStewardship #SustainabilityMatters #FutureCities #NatureConservation #SustainableLiving #UrbanDesign #ConsciousLiving #GreenFuture #ResponsibleGrowth #UrbanSustainability #EcoInnovation #ForestPreservation #SheherSaazUK #BuildForTomorrow #NatureFirst #EnvironmentalAwareness #SheherSaaz

Everything under the sky When asked to define what landscape is, this is my reply. It goes beyond the built environment. It’s the land, Soils, Water, Plants and wildlife, People, And the forces and processes that interact with them. They aren’t defined by city and countryside, built and unbuilt. They’re all connected. Regenerative design goes beyond the red line of the site Leaps the city boundary And connects all living things. We need to widen our understand of ‘development’, Understand and take part in policies and decisions that shape all landscapes, Including the other 90% of the UK that’s not built. Because we all share the same sky. #landscapearchitecture #urbandesign #healthandwellbeing
