Dearest nonprofit friends! Consider collaboration before closure :) 🤝 ➡️ There are many reasons to include collaboration conversations in your normal course of doing business. Guarding against sudden and disruptive closure is just one of them! It is possible to responsibly sunset a nonprofit but if you want too long to have the conversation, it limits your options. This piece by Lara Jakubowski is a must-read for nonprofit leaders! 👀 #sustainedcollaboration

"A partnership or merger should never be executed solely because of any of the following reasons: -an agency wants to meet the demands of a single funder or funding stream; -an executive director wants to arrange it (along with his/her future role in the merged organization) without board involvement; or -two board chairs, as good friends, discussed it and thought it should happen without discussing the idea with other board members or staff." Erik Speakman shares how to explore, prepare and begin a successful strategic partnership/merger post-pandemic. #nonprofit #nonprofitstrategy

As both a former nonprofit executive director with experience leading nonprofit mergers and currently a strategic advisor to others in this space, I have learned several key lessons. One of the most important is that creating a strategic partnership is not a task to be taken lightly. It demands a significant investment of time and resources, yet the potential rewards make it a worthwhile endeavor. The journey of partnership begins with identifying a suitable ally, understanding each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and crafting shared objectives that transcend individual capabilities. Rigorous due diligence is essential to ascertain the financial stability and governance integrity of the prospective partner organization. While these steps may seem exhaustive, they merely set the stage for the real work that lies ahead. The signing of the closing documents is not the end, but rather the commencement of a new chapter. It marks the start of a collaborative journey, a continuous process of growth, adaptation, and mutual learning. It is the beginning of a shared commitment to addressing complex challenges and achieving common goals. In the realm of strategic partnerships, the end is truly just the beginning. I’m pleased to share my insights on the art of building successful nonprofit partnerships including how to navigate change, integrate cultural rituals, and support people through transitions: https://lnkd.in/grf-_NzK #partnerships #transition #humanelement #nonprofitleadership #nonprofitorganizations

Last night our Senior Partnerships Manager Hannah Gregory hosted our Founders Forum, welcoming the two founders of Kimaï, an ethical lab-grown diamond brand, who you may have recently seen on BBC’s Dragon’s Den! Here are Hannah's key takeaways from the evening: 📌 Find complimentary qualities in your team: The founders Jessica and Sidney are not only business partners but also best friends, have clearly defined roles within their company, proving that going into business with friends can be successful. 📌 Don't just take the money: When raising funds, it's crucial to carefully consider all options. Jessica and Sidney's strategic decision-making, as seen on Dragons Den, led them to choose Steven Bartlett, who fully invested in them as founders and their business mission. 📌 The power of persistence: Founded in 2018, Jessica and Sidney shared that cold emails are still a part of their business development strategy and have helped to secure investments. Their efforts were validated when Meghan Markle wore a pair of their lab grown diamond earrings, leading to interest from investors and a $1.2 million investment.
