Bin rubbish content. Google’s first major search update of the year started rolling out last week. According to Elizabeth Tucker (Director of Product, Search at Google), the update will reduce unhelpful content on the engine by a whopping 40%. That’s a serious spring clean. Purges on so-called ‘unhelpful content’ are not new - we saw significant Google updates at the back-end of last year that had a huge impact on rankings. The implications were reviewed by our very own Lee Macklin, Lead SEO Consultant at Organic | Certified B Corp UK, who wrote a great piece on the topic of penalising low-quality or unoriginal content. Central to Lee’s advice to content creators and e-commerce brands is this: 'Prioritse the user and their needs first'. Simple but sage.
