America's "left-behind" places are becoming the "leap-forward" climate innovation hubs ! I am heartened to learn that 40% of announced US private investments in building a clean economy will flow into the historically disadvantaged communities in America. This is the strongest evidence that Biden Administration's promise to uplift left-behind communities by leveraging federal funding like Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) - which offers incentives to private sector to invest in a green economy - is creating a positive social impact at the *grassroots* (county) level. And yet... With just 3 days left before the US presidential election, I am astonished at how poorly first the Biden Administration and then the Harris campaign has *communicated* the once-in-a-century SOCIAL impact created by federal investments like IRA. Biden + Harris team did communicate the fact these federal investments in clean energy + climate tech are creating JOBS across America. But they didn't mention how some counties and regions are leveraging federal funds + private investments to undertake a SYSTEMIC TRANSITION and not just an energy transition. In 2023, Pacific Community Ventures made a resolute commitment alongside the Clinton Global Initiative to inaugurate our Climate Justice Mobilization Initiative. 70% of global citizens polled believe that climate change is an increasing concern, but a disproportionate number of Americans fail to see the problem, our contribution to it, and its urgency. Why? This article says " the disconnect... could be partially attributed to the sway that polluting industries hold over the U.S. political system. That sway, they say, has largely come from corporations’ ability to make unlimited political donations and run campaigns aimed at deceiving politicians and the public about the environmental impacts of their products.". 🌟 Day 54 - Grant Number 53 - Grant Alert: 🌟 🌍 Climate Action Fund Grant Opportunity - Apply Now! 🌱 The Climate Action Fund (CAF), initiated in 2009, is calling for grassroots champions fighting against fossil fuel extraction and large greenhouse gas emissions sources to apply for its latest grant round. What We Fund: - Local resistance to fossil fuel extraction: coal, tar sands, oil, and gas. - Efforts to prevent construction or decommission large point sources of greenhouse gas emissions (over 100,000 tons of CO2). Grant Criteria: - Community involvement and mobilization. - Projects with clear objectives, strategy, and significant climate mitigation impact. - Commitment to diversity and equity. - Organizations with an annual budget under $150,000 given priority. Geographic Focus: Primary focus in South and North America, though all regions are considered. Applicants outside these areas should inquire before applying. Grant Details: - Maximum award of $2,500. - Preference for communities of color and those with limited resource access. New report from Rights and Resources Initiative that reflects on a meeting of 70 rightsholder representatives and their allies from around the world to discuss climate finance, particularly carbon markets. Communities need to be regarded as true partners in climate change. This involves providing them with sufficient, usable information on how the markets work and what they can do to ensure that they are not left behind or further disadvantaged in the global response to this crisis. https://lnkd.in/dSYUfr74
