Repeating Spider Patterns in Nature It amazes me how nature repeats its patterns. One pattern is the spider pattern. Sea spiders are like on land spiders with both having eight walking legs. More amazing are spider plants, spider flowers and spider lily. They are all plants but belong to different families. These plants got their names because their leaves or flowers look like the walking legs of spiders. Are these patterns repeating randomly or they serve a purpose? Nature seeks efficient solutions. In spite of the varying environments in which these plants grow they are consistent with their spider patterns. Nature is amazing. #patterns #spiderlily #spiderflowers #spiderplant #nature

...and it was all yellow! 🌟 The forest floor at Jenkins is covered in yellow trout lily blooms right now. Did you know that our golden carpet is actually made up of two different species? Although they look similar and carry the same common name (yellow trout lily), you can easily spot the difference between the two when comparing them side-by-side: 🌟 Erythronium rostratum (left) - This trout lily is generally taller with larger blooms. On sunny days, its flowers will open wide like a star, showing off bright yellow anthers surrounded by bright yellow tepals*. 🌟 Erythronium americanum (right) - Typically shorter with more slender leaves, this trout lily's flowers tend to face downward. When in bloom, its speckled tepals* are fully reflexed, revealing deep orange anthers. Can you spot the difference? While there are two distinct species of trout lilies growing at Jenkins, nature never falls perfectly into our categories! The two species can hybridize and produce individuals that exhibit a mix of traits from each species. Test your trout lily ID skills on your next visit to Jenkins and let us know if you think you’ve spotted a hybrid! Remember, trout lilies are ephemeral wildflowers and won't be in bloom for much longer. Plan your trip today to see these fleeting friends. Jenkins is open daily from 9 AM - 7 PM with free admission. *Wait, what is a tepal? Tepals are the petal-like parts of a flower that has no differentiation between petals and sepals. One common plant with tepals is the tulip. Picture a tulip in your mind and you’ll notice that they don’t have differentiated petals and sepals…so the petal-like parts of the flower must be tepals! #jenkinsarboretum #jenkinsarboretumandgardens #americasgardencapital #spring #springtime #springblooms #erythronium #erythroniumamericanum #erythroniumrostratum

About Sun Flower Now You know! The sunflower is not a flower! 🌻 Its petals are actually ray flowers and are made up of multiple petals fused together. Ray petals are usually yellow but can sometimes be red or orange. The number of petals of a sunflower plant is determined on its size. A sunflower has between 34 and 89 petals. Now, look inside the "flower" more closely. Look into what you once thought was the flower and is actually a lot of tiny "flowers". Many... Many... Beautiful and delicate in an alignment beyond harmonic (the geometry of nature). What you thought was a flower, is actually an outline that holds hundreds and hundreds of flowers... The ray florets of sunflower are known as neuters because it consists neither male or female parts in the flower. If the flower contains any of the small strap-shaped flowers in the head of certain composite plants, such as the daisy is called Ray floret. And if we look at it with the eyes of gardeners, we will realize that each little flower holds within itself, in this golden dust, countless fields of sunflowers. In biology, this is called an infloration. 🌻💫 #repost #sunflower

The Future of Sustainable Energy and Agriculture 💡 In our quest for sustainable energy, the role of bees and pollinators is crucial. Combining #alternativeenergyresources with #agrivoltaics, #regenerativegrazing, #beekeeping, and #pollinator reproduction is revolutionizing the way we approach environmental sustainability and agricultural productivity. It’s a Win-Win with Agrivoltaics 🐏🌞 Agrivoltaics merges agriculture with solar energy. Solar panels above crops or grazing areas not only generate clean energy but also create shaded habitats that benefit crops and bees. This synergy promotes bee reproduction and supports their essential pollination role. Regenerative Grazing -A Boost for Biodiversity #Regenerativegrazing in solar farms enhances ecological balance. Rotating livestock, like sheep, through these areas manages vegetation naturally, enriches soil, and creates a diverse ecosystem. This approach benefits the environment and provides a dual income for farmers. The Buzz with Beekeeping 🐝 #Beekeeping on solar farms supports critical bee populations, boosting crop yields in nearby areas and enhancing ecological health. The honey produced is an extra revenue source, making this practice both economically and environmentally beneficial. Pollinator Reproduction -Our Path to Recovery Investing in #pollinator reproduction counters damage from habitat loss and pesticides. Creating pollinator-friendly environments within solar farms helps rebuild bee and butterfly populations, vital for our ecosystems and agriculture. By integrating these practices, we align renewable energy goals with agricultural productivity and ecological health, creating resilient and environmentally sound systems. This multifaceted strategy repairs and revitalizes our landscapes, ensuring a healthy planet for future generations. Embracing all of the above mentioned is more than an initiative—it’s a commitment to a sustainable future. Let's champion this movement and create a legacy of sustainability that buzzes with life and prosperity. #csg #communitysolargardens #diversify #conservation #USDA #ruraldevelopment #ranchers #farmers #emergingmarkets #bridgethegap #solar #ccs #BESS #hydgrogen #energy Truly, CC If interested in working with Twisted Land Company, and you have not heard from us, contact businessdevelopment@twistedlandcompany.com and or candice@twistedlandcompany.com Interested in working with our teams, apply directly to: recruiting@twistedlandcompany.com Subject: Position/State/Name In the body, please include day/hourly rate.
A little #honey insight to sweeten this beautiful weekend ahead: As farmers/ranchers plow, seed, cultivate crops, produce and more I wanted to take a moment to really touch the unique and multi use besides pollination of flowers, vegetables and more to create blooming and production on our land. We make a move to seed out or develop good pollinators for our busy helpers yearly and are working with the “Bee man” here for bee houses to be installed. Some fun little facts about these creatures: In the intricate world of the honey bee, a treasure trove of wonders awaits those who dare to delve beneath the surface. Beyond their buzzing flight and sweet nectar, these industrious insects harbor secrets that have captivated humankind for centuries. From the golden elixir of honey to the mystical powers of propolis, the honey bee is a creature of marvel and mystery. 🐝 Did you know that honey, with its live enzymes and brain-boosting properties, stands as a testament to the bee's incredible alchemy? This natural wonder, capable of sustaining human life alone, holds a power that transcends its sweet taste. When savored with a wooden or plastic spoon, its essence remains untainted, a testament to the delicate dance of nature. 🐝 The story deepens as we uncover the ancient practice of preserving greatness with honey, where emperors found eternal rest in golden coffins bathed in its timeless essence. Even the term "honeymoon" whispers of the bee's legacy, as newlyweds sought fertility through the consumption of this sacred substance. 🐝 Yet, the bee's life is fleeting, lasting less than 40 days, a mere blink in the grand tapestry of existence. In its brief span, it flits among a thousand flowers, crafting less than a teaspoon of honey—a testament to the dedication and sacrifice woven into every drop. 🐝 As we reflect on the bee's legacy, let us offer a deep gratitude to these humble creatures who gift us with their bounty. From the dawn of civilization to the coins of old, the bee's symbol has endured, a timeless reminder of nature's intricate design. Let us honor and cherish the honey bee, a guardian of life's sweetest secrets. 🐝 #nature #pollination #farming #ranching #bees #homesteading #usda #osu #sweet #medicinal

Let’s talk about trees🌳💚🌳🌴💚 In the kingdom plantae, trees are tall, magnificent and majestic life forms with unique features that sustain not only themselves but all other living things that exist on the planet. Typically, they have a long woody stem, a distinct crown made up of branches and twigs with many leaves and in some cases flowers and a vast network of roots. Tree species vary widely in their sizes, colours, forms and shapes of the leaves and certain trees bear fruits and flowers at different seasons. They are perennial by nature which simply means that they have longer lifespans and are very resilient compared to other plant types. #trees #naturelovers #saveourtrees #conservation #closetonature #treelovers
