𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 - 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐢𝐭 Do you replay situations you wish had gone differently? Wishing you had or hadn’t said something? Regret not volunteering for a project now getting recognition? These thoughts are called 𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Rumination is linked to poor problem-solving, anxiety, and depression. The good news is there are simple and practical solutions to break the cycle: 𝟏. 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬. Think about what has triggered you in the past. Have you worked with colleagues in the past whom you did not trust? Do you feel self-conscious around more accomplished people? Do you get stressed by having to make significant financial decisions? 𝟐. 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬. Do you tend to blame yourself or others? 𝟑. 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐩𝐬𝐲𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞. Recognize irrelevant perceptions and small worries. For example, do you worry about others' opinions? Focus on minor issues? Feel like an underachiever despite success? 𝟒. 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. Instead of thinking, “I’m inadequate,” create distance between thoughts and feelings. Reframe your mindset to “I’m FEELING inadequate.” 𝟓. 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦-𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠. Rumination decreases problem-solving effectiveness. Shift to improvement mode by asking, “What’s the best choice right now?” 𝟔. 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤. Distract yourself when ruminating with short, absorbing activities. Focus on a few pages of an article or a book, jog, walk, meditate, or do yoga. 𝟕. 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫𝐬. Start to recognize thinking errors when emotions are heightened. For example, if you get an email from a colleague or superior and get hung up on one word or sentence, take some distance and return to it to avoid misinterpreting the tone of the entire email. The first step to stopping rumination is to become aware of when it is happening. 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨. #Leadership #LeadershipCoaching #HealthcareLeaders #NursingLeaders #HealthcareOnLinkedIn

3 Things That Are Making Your Anxiety Worse I have worked with thousands of leaders and executives who experience anxiety, and certain habits can make anxiety worse. Recognizing these habits is the first step to managing anxiety effectively and improving leadership effectiveness. Here are three things you might be doing that are making your anxiety worse: 1.❌ Avoiding Challenging Situations: Avoiding difficult conversations, high-stakes decisions, or important meetings may reduce anxiety, but it reinforces your fears. ✅Instead, seek opportunities to engage with these situations. Regular practice builds confidence and reduces anxiety over time. 2.❌ Worrying Excessively: Worrying about business outcomes, team performance, or market changes can fuel anxiety. It might feel like gaining control, but it triggers more anxiety. ✅ Instead, focus on actionable steps and solutions rather than dwelling on worst-case scenarios. 3.❌ Fighting Against Your Anxiety: Suppressing or ignoring anxiety signals to your brain that it’s dangerous, increasing anxiety. ✅ Instead, acknowledge your anxiety and then engage in activities that soothe your nervous system back to calm. Such as heart focused breathing and accessing uplifting emotions such as calm and peace By understanding and adjusting these behaviors, you can better manage your anxiety and lead with greater calm and clarity. If you would like to learn how to do some of the practical tools follow Julie Hutchinson for more insights like this. #Juliecore #AnxietyAwareness #EmotionalIntelligence

🕒 PROCRASTINATION: A Secret Weapon or a Silent Thief? A topic that touches us all but is rarely spoken about in the realm of success: Procrastination. Is it always the villain in our productivity story, or can it sometimes be our unexpected ally? Some thoughts: 👍🏽PROS of Procrastination ✅ Creativity Boost: Ever noticed how those last-minute pressures can sometimes spark our most creative solutions? Procrastination can force us to think outside the box, tapping into innovative ideas that don't surface in a calm, linear workflow. ✅ Prioritization Clarity: Delaying tasks might just be our subconscious sorting what truly matters. This pause can help us reassess our priorities, ensuring that we are not just busy, but productive in what genuinely drives our purpose forward. ✅ Rest and Reset: In our high-speed lives, procrastination can be a sign that our minds and bodies need a breather. This downtime is crucial for long-term sustainability, preventing burnout and fostering a health and wellbeing. 👎🏽CONS of Procrastination ⬇ Increased Stress: The undeniable downside is the stress of looming deadlines. The rush to complete tasks can lead to anxiety, impacting our mental health and the quality of our output. ⬇ Opportunity Costs: What opportunities do we miss when we put things off? Procrastination can lead to missed chances and potential regrets, particularly in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. ⬇ Self-Respect: Consistent delay or putting off can equate to not keeping our word with ourselves. Also, as leaders maintaining a reputation for reliability and timeliness is paramount in nurturing trust and respect among peers and clients. What’s your take? Exerting control over those around you only increases stress and risk of failure. Companies often hire me because a leader is showing signs of stress, manifesting in aggressive behaviour, impacting the team. While coaching, 9 times out of 10 - the employee discovers a inflated need to control. Driven by a fear that without control, they will fail. Their reputation will be tarnished - leaving their career, livelihood and survival all under threat. It is the threat of survival that provokes the fight, flight or freeze response. Fight often shows up as control - often using aggression as a tactic to move others in a direction or at a speed they want them to move. You might be able to relate - maybe not at work, but at home. When stressed or insecure, you feel the need to control people to behave in the way you need them to for you to feel OK. While a common stress response, it might work in the short-term, but only leads to problems in the long-term: ❗️ Team demotivation ❗️ Hiding of information and mistakes ❗️ Reduction in transparent and cohesive communication ❗️ Disengagement, quiet quitting, active resignation Feeling even more out of control, the leader's stress increases, becomes even more controlling and ultimately both they and the team fail in the long run. 🎓 The real problem? A lack of trust. Not in their teams. But in their own ability to: ➡️ lead, teach, train and communicate effectively to motivate and inspire their team to achieve results ➡️ be OK with not always being in control ➡️ cope with stress and bounce back from failure ➡️ manage their ego’s response to people seeing them “fail” Driven by an underlying belief that if they fail, they are not good enough. Jeopardising their human needs for safety, respect and ultimately love. To let go of our need to over-control, we must: ✅ go inward to find what we seek, instead of outward ✅ develop self-belief and trust (in ourselves, God, a higher power - that everything happens to show us where we need to believe in ourselves more and grow) ✅ take time for stillness to manage our fears and insecurities, and listen to our inner wisdom ✅ learn how to love ourselves - winning or losing Where is your need to control showing up for you right now? 🛏️💫⚡ That Pre-Sleep Mental Loop Is Costing You Success 💭 We need to talk about the fact that you can’t fall asleep because you're analyzing every conversation from the day, planning tomorrow's meetings, or thinking about that email you need to send. 🙋♀️ I used to think this was normal. Just part of being ambitious and caring about my career. My mind was always racing with replays, worries, and to-do lists. 😴 But here's what I learned: When your mind never fully switches off, you're not just losing sleep - you're losing your mental edge. 💡 That constant mental processing isn't making you more productive or successful. It's actually depleting the energy you need to show up as a leader. 🌱 Quality rest isn't a luxury - it's where your best ideas emerge and your leadership grows. ✨ I know it feels impossible to quiet your mind. That mental replay feels automatic, constant. But there are ways to break this cycle. 🔄 When I finally learned to create real mental space, everything changed. My decisions got better. My creativity and productivity increased. And my leadership presence grew stronger. 🚀 Ready to transform your relationship with rest and reclaim your mental space?
