Happy to welcome Hendourou Keita-Bartolomaus to the team! 🙋♀️ Hendou has joined LCL as our first Procurement Specialist, with a clear focus on sustainable procurement. Following our EcoVadis gold medal, we recognised the need to further embed sustainability into procurement process, so that's exactly what we're doing. With a fresh and enthousiastic perspective fueled by her extensive experience, Hendou is set on enhancing our procurement processes to not only be cost-effective but environmentally conscious. LCL’s vision involves not just internal improvements but extending our sustainability practices to our suppliers. By educating and collaborating with them, we aim to create a ripple effect of sustainability throughout our supply chain. Hendou enjoys bringing people together in her home and spoiling them with homecooked meals, so we're sure she will be a great addition to bringing our LCL team closer together as well! 🤗 Want to know more about Hendou's approach to her new role? Sue Hurrell and I had a great morning discussing socially responsible procurement with CIPS - The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply Cheshire and North Wales Branch members. Thanks Nathan Davies for having us! The session was really interactive with some great discussion around delivering socially responsible procurement outcomes. We focussed on 3 main questions, and here is a snapshot of some of the outcomes from the discussions: 1) What does Socially Responsible Procurement mean? 💡 Delivering socially responsible procurement requires extensive and meaningful stakeholder engagement by organisations to understand the needs of their customers and the communities they serve. 💡 It requires stakeholders to work together across organisational boundaries, taking a multi-partner approach to maximise positive outcomes and impact. 2) How can socially responsible procurement help us achieve our well-being objectives? 💡 Socially responsible procurement needs to be led from the top - procurement is such an important lever to deliver greater value (and to dust of my favourite Melissa Bell quote, procurement has the power to change the world). 💡 It is important to prioritise and really think about where we can make the biggest impact, and to work with stakeholders to effect meaningful change. 💡 It is important to communicate - with staff, with suppliers, with customers, with communities, and with partners, so that there is absolute clarity in relation to the outcomes we are seeking to deliver. 3) How can we apply the 5 Ways of Working to make Socially Responsible Procurement the “way we do things”? 💡 The 5 ways of working need to be embedded throughout the organisation as the “way we do things”. 💡 Socially responsible procurement needs a long term approach and outlook. Making decisions on the basis of short-term considerations risks poor buying behaviours and decisions, and is not compatible with the long term aspirations set out through the Well-being of Future Generations Act. We also discussed approaches to measuring and reporting, and the importance of sharing case studies and stories to showcase the positive impact of adopting a socially responsible approach to procurement. And the one quote from the day that really stood out for me was in the context of a contractor who had delivered social value locally, but it was something that would be almost impossible to quantify using standard performance indicators or financial-based metrics: "How do you measure smiles?" #procurement #cips #sociallyresponsibleprocurement #mcips Llywodraeth Caffael Masnachol Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government Commercial Procurement Adra Cyngor Gwynedd Cyngor Sir Ddinbych _ Denbighshire County Council
