ILO LAUNCHES JOBAGRI PILOT PROJECT TO STRENGTHEN AGRICULTURE AND EMPLOYMENT IN GHANA The International Labour Organization (ILO) has officially launched the JobAgri pilot project in Ghana, aimed at enhancing the agricultural sector and creating more decent employment opportunities. The initiative is set to lay the groundwork for innovative policies that foster sustainable growth in agriculture, with a focus on improving data collection, policy development, and promoting decent work. Dr. Vanessa Phala-Moyo, Director of the ILO Country Office for Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, emphasized the importance of using reliable data to drive decisions that will improve both agricultural productivity and job creation. She also noted that the project will address critical knowledge gaps, particularly in linking employment with production data. In addition, the JobAgri project will establish a multisectoral, multi-stakeholder, and tripartite-plus policy dialogue to ensure that traditionally marginalized groups—such as women and youth—are included in the decision-making process. Dr. Phala stressed that collaboration is key to overcoming the structural challenges in agriculture and creating better job opportunities. She expressed optimism that success in Ghana could serve as a model for similar projects across Africa. The Chief Director of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr. Kizito Ballans, highlighted the need for a resilient agricultural system in Ghana, emphasizing food security, job creation, and environmental sustainability as national priorities. Funded by the German government, the JobAgri pilot phase in Ghana is seen as a crucial step toward shaping policies for agricultural development across Africa. Ms. Janetta Carlucci, the FAO Representative, called for evidence-based solutions to improve labour quality and ensure job creation and inclusion throughout the agricultural value chain. The project aligns with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and is expected to contribute to Ghana's broader agricultural and industrial development efforts. #JobAgri #SustainableAgriculture #DecentWork #AgriculturalPolicy #InclusiveGrowth

Dear President-Elect HE John Dramani Mahama, I extend my warmest congratulations to you on your well-deserved election as the President of the Republic of Ghana. Your victory signifies the trust and hope the people of Ghana have placed in your vision and leadership for our country’s future. As you prepare to lead us into a new chapter, I wish to draw your attention to an important area that requires immediate focus: the empowerment of farmers through capacity building in regenerative and precision agriculture. These modern farming methods are essential for increasing yields, promoting sustainability, and addressing the pressing challenges of food security and climate change. By investing in training programs and technological support, we can unlock the full potential of our agricultural sector and improve the livelihoods of countless farmers across the nation. Additionally, I urge your administration to facilitate market access for farmers’ produce and support the diversification of our local markets to include both organic and inorganic options. Creating such a marketplace will not only give buyers the freedom to choose but will also encourage healthier consumption patterns and increase demand for organic products, further driving innovation in agriculture. By prioritizing these initiatives, your leadership can create a robust agricultural ecosystem that fosters prosperity, environmental sustainability, and economic growth. I am confident that your government will take decisive steps to ensure that Ghanaian farmers are equipped to thrive and compete on both local and international markets. Once again, congratulations on your election. I wish you a successful tenure filled with remarkable achievements that uplift the lives of all Ghanaians. #CongratulationsGhana #FarmersFirst #PrecisionAgriculture #RegenerativeFarming #SustainableAgriculture #FoodSecurity #OrganicAndInorganic #LocalMarkets #EmpoweringFarmers #AgriRevolutionGhana #HealthyChoices #MarketAccess #FutureOfFarming Yours faithfully, Deloris Enyo Awalime

The Incorporated Society of Planters (ISP), the Malaysian-founded organisation responsible for the promotion of industry best practices and sustainability initiatives within the plantation sector, will be launching its regional chapter for Africa on the 24th of May this year. A milestone event that will be taking place at the Abuja Continental Hotel in Nigeria, the launch aligns with the ISPs active initiatives to bring revolutionary changes to the African agricultural sector. Aiming to replicate some of the success that has been experienced by nations such as Malaysia and Indonesia over the past few decades, the ISP and its representatives strongly believe that Africa is due to revisit its agro-industry practices and focus on improving key areas such as technology adoption and capacity building. The purpose of the launch is to introduce ISP's vision, mission and goals to the plantation industry at large, as well as to foster networking opportunities among agricultural experts, industry stakeholders, policy makers and researchers, in order to support efforts at improving the conditions within the plantation sector. The ISP hopes to use the occasion to discuss key challenges and opportunities within the African Agricultural Sector as well as well as to emphasize the importance of sustainable and innovative agricultural practices. The launch will also allow the ISP to more clearly highlight its role in promoting knowledge exchange and capacity building among planters across Africa As participants of the event, key leadership from the IRGA and KINGOYA teams will be attending the launch, joined by a sizable delegation from Malaysia. We hope to learn as much as we can about the unique challenges and opportunities within the African agricultural sector so that we can develop the tools and technologies that would best serve their needs in due course Register for the event now by following the link here: www.ispafrica.org/register #ISP #AfricanAgri #CapacityBuilding #RegionalLaunch #InnovatingAgriculture #Sustainability
