At 48 years old, I heard the words, "Troy, you have Young-Onset Parkinson's Disease." This life-altering diagnosis put my beliefs to the ultimate test, but I knew I had to incorporate my personal stories of Parkinson’s into my public speaking. And I did. On July 12, 2017, after over 18 months of debilitating symptoms, I finally had an answer: Parkinson’s. Over the next few years, I found ways to build my Parkinson’s community and became active in organizations that support those with chronic health conditions, including serving on the Parkinson’s Foundation Heartland Chapter board. As a public speaker, I draw inspiration from my journey and the stories of others to inspire my audiences. Here’s my advice for those new to Parkinson’s: - There is no one path: Make decisions best for you and your support network. - Educate yourself: Learn about your symptoms and gather information for wise treatment decisions. - Find the right care team: Align with a team that meets your evolving needs. - Turn to the Parkinson’s Foundation: Their resources keep you informed and hopeful. Now, as a Parkinson’s Champion, I’m hosting my first fundraiser. On June 8, I will compete in the 6 in 6 Challenge, participating in six track and field events within six hours. This challenge honors the 60 people who will be diagnosed with Parkinson's during that time. Running has always been my passion, and I am honored to take on this challenge for those who can't. https://loom.ly/InhCt50 #ParkinsonsAwareness #Inspiration #PublicSpeaking #NeverGiveUp #6in6Challenge #TroyCook

Every Minute Counts After a Stroke—But What Happens After the Emergency? While immediate treatment for stroke is critical, the real journey begins with rehabilitation. For many stroke survivors in Uganda, this journey is hindered by limited access to therapy, specialized care, and proper equipment. The result? Many are left struggling to recover basic functions, and some never regain their independence. But together, we can change this. Our campaign is raising funds to ensure that stroke survivors in Uganda receive the care they need for recovery. With your help, we can: - Fund therapy sessions that are essential to recovery - Provide medical equipment to support rehabilitation Every donation brings hope to someone working to rebuild their life after stroke. 💙 Will you stand with us? https://lnkd.in/d7F85Z_J Your support today could change a life tomorrow. #SupportStrokeSurvivors #StrokeRecovery #RehabilitationMatters #UgandaHealthCare #HopeForSurvivors #IStandWithSurvivors #DonateNow
