Insights from the ISPSO Symposium Last Friday, our CEO, Aneta Mladenova-Natova, PCC, had the privilege of participating in the ISPSO Symposium in Sofia. It was an enriching experience, filled with engaging presentations and valuable conversations. Dr. Stan Gold’s keynote was particularly thought-provoking. Building on Freud's "Civilisation and its Discontents," he explored the balance between individual freedoms and societal demands. He emphasised that organisations must embrace reality's complex, multi-dimensional nature and be open to transformation. Key Takeaways: - Understanding conflicts within organisations. - Risks of sterility in organisations avoiding change and innovation. - Continuous scrutiny and adaptation to maintain organisational vitality. Paper Session: Tension in Groups Aneta also attended a compelling paper session titled "Tension in Groups: The Developmental Conflict in Groups," presented by Conrad S Chrzanowski and moderated by Sarah Wynick. This session delved into Wilfred Bion's ideas on group dynamics. Key Insights: - Understanding Freud's "narcissism of minor differences." - The impact of developmental conflict on group cohesion and productivity. - Strategies to manage and contain these conflicts to foster innovation and growth. Connecting and Learning The event was a fantastic opportunity to learn and make new connections. We are grateful to the organisers for such a well-orchestrated event that provided a platform for meaningful discussions and exchange of ideas. #ISPSO2023 #Leadership #OrganisationalDevelopment #Freud #Bion #GroupDynamics #Innovation #Growth #LeadFitGlobal

🚀 ☕ Pausefika news: Long-Term Policy, The Key to Unlocking Swedish Research Excellence? Swedish research policy has made bold strides since the early 1990s, aiming to improve research quality and international competitiveness. Despite significant investments and new initiatives, a recently released report, "Perspectives on Excellence Initiatives", reveals that Sweden - where I live - has not achieved the desired boost in global impact. 🔍 Key Findings from the Report: - Major political support and resource allocation have driven innovation and change in Swedish universities. - However, unlike comparable countries (Denmark, France - my home country - or Germany), Sweden's research has not strengthened its international influence. - Lessons from these initiatives highlight the need for a more consistent, long-term policy framework. 🗨️ Anders Broström, CEO of the Entreprenörskapsforum, emphasizes: "We need research policy grounded in robust evaluations and designed for long-term institutional autonomy and academic freedom. Universities must be empowered to deliver both impactful research and quality education." 🌍 As Sweden embarks on new excellence initiatives, learning from the past is critical to securing its place as a leader on the global research stage. 👉 Let’s spark the conversation: - How can Swedish universities adapt to maximize their global impact? - Are autonomy and flexibility the key to unlocking research excellence? Join the discussion and share your insights on Pausefika! 💡Check out the Google NotebookLM podcast generated from the report here: https://lnkd.in/d3BTvRTY #research #Sweden #universities #megatrends #Pausefika #strategy #researchimpact

We are at #GEMConference2024 tomorrow talking about how our embedded evaluation activities and framework for Creative Black Country over the last 8 years have transformed the programme. If you are coming to the conference do let us know!
📊 Embedding Evaluation in Our Journey at GEM Conference For the past 8 years, CBC and Earthen Lamp have worked hand-in-hand, weaving evaluation into the very core of our programme. This long-term partnership has helped us build a foundation of robust research and ongoing critical reflection. It's not always been a smooth road, but Sajida Carr, CBC’s Director of Operations and Development and Dr Vishalakshi Roy of Earthen Lamp, will be sharing our evaluation journey — the ups, the downs, and everything in between at this year’s Group for Education in Museums conference on Wednesday. They’ll share: ✨ how continuous evaluation has shaped and refined our work ✨ the incredible impacts it’s had on the programme’s effectiveness ✨ how we’ve grown into a more relevant and impactful organisation ✨ show how this partnership has helped us thrive ☀️Sajida Carr 🌊 | Vishalakshi Roy | Gem Conference | Earthen Lamp https://lnkd.in/eCAGaPuC #GEMConference2024 #EvaluationMatters #PartnershipPower #CBCJourney #ContinuousImprovement #EarthenLamp #ImpactfulChange #LearningAndGrowing #TransparencyInAction

It’s a tough gig, opening the last day of a conference after an awards dinner the night before! But Prof Tim Vorley OBE, Christine Doel and Andrew Carter, ably chaired by John Leake - Sci-Tech Daresbury more than rose to the challenge with a great discussion on innovation clusters. My favourite points were; “Thinking about sectors independently is less helpful than looking at how they relate” and “think of clusters as verbs not nouns”. This led on nicely to a panel I joined (representing #UKInnovationDistrictsGroup) alongside Phil Carvil, Joshua Hawkins, Placi Espejo, Angela Kukula, Philip Macdonald chaired by Jo Stevens, who all know a thing or two about innovation clusters and hotspots! I was taken by how the UK space cluster might offer some valuable insights and potentially a blueprint for what a ‘Team GB approach’ to cluster development can look like in order to operate on a world-wide scale (and beyond!). My main reflections on innovation clusters were: 1. Size isn’t everything 2. Don’t forget the human scale 3. Hotspots in clusters are key 4. What we measure counts 5. How do you measure partnership strength? If you’re measuring partnership strength with respect to an innovation hub or cluster, I’d love to hear from you to learn more about how. Drop me line. Congratulations to James Chaffer and the whole of the UKSPA - The United Kingdom Science Park Association team for a fabulous 40th birthday conference. Thanks for having me to speak. #ukinnovationdistricts #innovation #innovationclusters #industrialstrategy

John Henderson and N. Venkatraman published the first version of their Strategic Alignment Model in 1989 in MIT CISR Working Paper 219. The model presented four domains—business strategy, information technology strategy, organizational infrastructure and processes, and information systems infrastructure and processes—which must align for an organization to achieve its goals. The model examined two characteristics of strategic management: strategic fit between the organization and the external environment and integration between the business and functional domains. The model has been cited over 7500 times in academic literature. Wow! John Henderson and I were so young and so excited about shifting the narrative that IT strategy should go beyond supporting the current business strategy to shaping the future strategy. It helped me then write the five-level transformation paper and the rest is history. #DigitalMatrix #Fusionstrategy

I was pleased to contribute to the ongoing EIT HEI Initiative event today in Brussels to once again represent EURASHE, E.I.N.S. E³UDRES² European University Entrepreneurship and Innovation Network for Smart and Sustainable Regions and Fachhochschule St. Pölten. My main issues: - It is all about passionate and open-minded colleagues. With support from the EIT HEI Initiative we have enabled and empowered these „Ent-re-e-novators“ (Entrepreneurs, researchers, educators, innovators) who drive necessary change and transformation of higher education. - We have to re-shape higher education institutions and connect them closer to society and industries in order to co-create impact and help to solve societal, ecological and economic challenges. We have to re-think our roles to overcome an increasing lack of trust in science that is not only widespread amongst people that we first leave behind and then blaim to vote far right- or left-wing. Also CEOs of successful companies, like for instance Leonhard Birnbaum in an interview in DIE ZEIT a few month ago, point out the scientists are irrelevant for him, as they are only able to answer his questions in 20 or 30 years time, but he has to take decisions and act right now… - We have to manage complexity, act opportunity driven and - at least from time to time - leave our cosy scientific bubbles and academic ivory towers. We have to join all our forces and co-create mutual benefits together with various stakeholders. We have to build on the diversity of European regions as most relevant source for both innovation and resilience. Yes, we are „Stronger Together“, as we recently pointed out during our EURASHE Annual Conference.
📢EURASHE President Hannes Raffaseder today joined a #PolicyPanel at the closing event of the EIT HEI Initiative pilot phase, alongside Antoaneta Angelova-Krasteva - European Commission, Valtencir M. Mendes - UNESCO and Heinrich Arnold, EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology Board member. Secretary General John Edwards is also involved in the event leading a workshop on #SmartSpecialisation. The HEI Initiative, funded by #HorizonEurope recognises HEIs as the pivotal actors in #regional and #European innovation ecosystems. EURASHE, whose members are deeply embedded in their regional innovation ecosystems, organised a webinar with the #EIT on the last call and plans another for the next call this autumn.
