🫂 “It is very rare for us feminist[s] of the Global South to be able to come together to share and hold each other.” Hosted by the Women's Fund Asia and organized by the Leading from the South (LFS) Consortium, the cross-regional convening on Resistance, Resilience, and Care was six years in the making. Finally during the month of October in 2023, the four LFS Consortium partners, namely the African Women's Development Fund (AWDF) FIMI - International Indigenous Women's Forum Fondo de Mujeres del Sur and WFA, convened alongside more than 50 #GlobalSouth women, young women, and trans and non binary feminists, from 26 countries to reflect on activism at the frontlines of environmental and social justice movements and its impact on their lives and wellbeing. 🦋 This space provided a critical opportunity for women’s rights defenders and grassroots leaders to exchange and build cross-border solidarity. For many participants, it was the first time they had ever left their communities and met women and gender-diverse people from different countries to share individual and collective stories of how they withstand the impacts of traumatic and life-changing experiences. Ultimately, the convening provided a refuge to imagine how activism could look if care practices were fully resourced and universally viewed as integral to the work. ❇ More on the reflections here: https://lnkd.in/g8FxwF_g ___ Beautiful artwork by Sonaksha Iyengar __ Fondation CHANEL Cathleen Caga-anan Lerat Kristina Wintermeier WO=MEN, Dutch Gender Platform

Flexible funding for feminist movements should be the norm, not the exception! In case you missed it, we announced 24 new strategic grants partners in April. Despite the vital role they play, feminist movements are massively underfunded, receiving less than 1% of Official Development Assistance globally. Organisations and networks that work to sustain feminist movements often operate on shoestring budgets, relying on small, short term, and highly restricted grants. This kind of highly restricted funding is time consuming to manage, and limits innovation and flexibility by tying organisations to rigid project frameworks and timelines. Find out who our grantees are https://lnkd.in/dSq7VqkA

📣 Reminder: If you're planning on organising communications for International Women’s Day, this year's theme is #InvestInWomen, set by UNCTAD (United Nations) They lead the global theme-setting for the occasion. While some may adopt different themes, like #InspireInclusion, it's crucial to focus on tangible actions. The UN outlines five key actions: 1. Investing in women as a human rights imperative 2. Addressing poverty exacerbated by crises like COVID-19 3. Implementing gender-responsive financing 4. Transitioning to a green economy and care society 5. Supporting feminist change-makers Let's ensure our actions aren't just performative. It's about making genuine progress #nationalwomensday #Inclusion #Comms #EmployeeExperience

How International Organizations Can Support Women's Inclusion International organizations play a vital role in promoting and supporting the inclusion of women in transitional justice. Entities like the United Nations and various NGOs advocate for gender-sensitive approaches and provide essential resources and expertise to national justice mechanisms. Their initiatives help to ensure that women's voices are heard and that justice processes are inclusive, equitable, and effective.

📣Can’t be repeated enough: “Investing in women and girls benefits everyone. We know that economies with women’s full participation have more room to grow. That women’s political participation is associated with decreased corruption. That peace agreements are more durable when women are involved in writing them. That reducing the time women spend in poor health could add as much as $1 trillion to the global economy by 2040.” - Melinda French Gates on her latest $1 billion commitment to women and girls worldwide. 👏Pivotal Ventures #inclusivegrowth #genderequality #sheconomy

Women need to continue to claim voice in key decision making spaces. Today, I made a statement at the #csw68 expert panel on the priority theme. Over the last 30 years, despite many gains in the area of women’s development and advancement we are now at a critical juncture, witnessing dangerous co-option and dilution of Women’s Rights, increased violence against women and girls, and a global pushback on women’s rights and women’s rights defenders. Financial mechanisms have shifted from giving Grants to countries, to giving Loans leading to more indebtedness for countries at a time when conflicts, natural disasters and climate change are impacting countries. Data shows that there is a disproportionate impact on women from these impacts. Asian-Pacific Resource & Research Centre for Women (ARROW)

Get the word out!!! From the UN: International Women’s Day 2024 theme is ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress’ So while it’s great to inspire inclusion, by actually investing in women you can make real change. And then you can post all the pictures you like with heart hands. #iwd2024 #InvestInWomen

Did you know that there are two International Women’s Days??? But, they are both on the 8th March! What? Ok, not actually ‘days’ but themes: 1. Official IWD theme, which is set by the UN each year. This year it is ‘Invest in women: celebrate progress’ . IMO, this is a sensible call to action. The UN include in this: Invest in Women as a Human Rights issue; Ending poverty; Implementing gender-responsive financing; Shifting to a green economy and care society; Supporting feminist change-makers (link in the comments to more detail). 2. An unofficial yet influential self-appointed commercial outfit who own the ‘International Women’s Day’ domain name. It sets its own theme each year. This year it is ‘inspire inclusion’ and is to be accompanied by a gesture (there’s always a gesture) of making a heart shape with your hands. It’s glib, performative and ‘inspires’ no action (other than making a heart shape with your hands). Which one will you be marking on 8th March? What are you doing for IWD? And why does this site insist on dividing attention and weakening the UN’s focus each year? (I won’t be making the heart shape) PS: Before anyone asks: 19th November #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2014 #InvestInWomen

A new report from Equality Fund with a beautiful title 💛 when we move together, we move the world💛 The report maps out the rich philosophies, strategies and approaches that underpin a feminist crisis response with a strong emphasis on unearthing and amplifying Global South perspectives. Key takeaways: 👉 Feminists view crises as events that cause significant suffering that are intricately woven into the fabric of structural vulnerabilities shaped by capitalism, colonialism, racism and ableism. They are exacerbated by disasters or emergencies. Crisis are: 💥 Structural- the complex interaction of ongoing dispossession and oppressions. 💥Compounded- they are intricately entwined with existing vulnerabilities that shape whether a crisis is even recognised. 💥 Political-The power to name and define a crisis is a political tool that does not represent or acknowledge all realities. 💥Beyond Humanitarian—a multifaceted analysis that recognises changes with widespread repercussions for safety and well-being, such as the erosion of civic spaces, can help turn crisis into strategic opportunity. Grassroots feminists are often at the frontline of responding to crises within their communities but are overlooked and under-resourced. Their approaches are: 💥Intersectional 💥Community-centric 💥Visionary and long-term 💥Care-centric Whilst their principles are shared, the strategies employed on the ground are diverse, ranging from creating safe spaces to providing holistic care- often shouldering the burden of the state with little support and transcending immediate relief strategies. 👉 Despite receiving a tiny proportion of global funding, investing in feminist crisis response is an opportunity to lay the foundations for communities to thrive long term. Amazing work by Kenza Yousfi Madhura Chakraborty (they/them) Rochelle Jones Cynthia Eyakuze Natalia Caruso and Julia Mason 👏 👏 👏 #feminist #leadership

Young feminist demands couldn't be clearer in our new report at #CSW68 with Global Fund for Women, MADRE and The Institute for Journalism and Social Change. Stark data reveals the global humanitarian system consistently underfunds girls & women. In fact, they're barely given mention. We find ourselves amidst globally escalating & interconnected crises. Women’s rights organisations & young feminist movements are at the forefront, responding to & driving change, yet this report shows profound systemic failures in international response. 👀 READ THIS! https://bit.ly/3wUIRRC #GlobalResilienceFund

This International Women’s Day, Safe and Equal welcomes the UN theme to invest in women for their economic empowerment. We know that women’s access to financial independence, jobs and education are vital to escaping family and gender-based violence, and rebuilding their lives. We also know women are more likely to be safe if their independence and control over decision-making is valued and supported. Our work is part of a global movement to ensure that everyone is safe – in their homes, on the streets, and in all aspects of their lives. We stand with all women - including women living in contexts of war and disaster, and First Nations women who continue to face racism and marginalisation as the result of ongoing colonisation. This IWD, we will continue our efforts to contribute a world without family and gender-based violence for all women. #IWD2024 [Image description: "Invest in women: accelerate progress.
