CSRD - Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive - Something that we all heard about but have we really spent time to understand it? In my latest MBA course we discussed this "popular" subject. As owners of SME, you might think that this does not affect us. Either we have no resources to deal with this or we don't have time. But we need to make time, as this directive is coming and it will apply for all of us. We need to learn how do we incorporate it into our businesses. As a small business owner, I would like to find the perfect balance. We all want to save the planet and contribute to preserving our environment and contribute to sustainability. However, balancing this goal with the costs of running a business can be challenging. So the perfect balance, or the sweet spot, is to find a economical way where we contribute to ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance), but also serves as an effective cost management strategy. Personally I think this can be done, but a lot of thinking and strategic planning needs to go into that process. In the picture you will see that by 2027 all SME companies will need to report on ESG. That means we need to have the data that is applicable for our services/product available. With that being said, we need to start collecting the data - NOW. To help you out on this journey, please listen to this amazing podcast from Barrett Cameron, where he explains about structured thinking, collaboration, and team motivation for effective sustainability reporting. https://lnkd.in/da-vubi2 P.S. Sorry for a poor picture quality, it was taken by my camera from the course materials :-)

The European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires companies to report on impacts, risks, and opportunities in terms of the environment, social aspects, and good governance (ESG). The double materiality and everything that goes with it, not to mention the full reporting, entails a lot of work. What are the main pitfalls for most companies? 1. Starting too late, without a clear plan and goal; 2. Underestimation of the workload involved in the process; 3. Incomplete stakeholder selection and survey; 4. Substandard documentation of and communication about the process; 5. Losing sight of the fact that reporting is an annual obligation, of which the dual materiality is a dynamic part.
