WE DO NOT NEED MORE POLITICS IN OUR SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS! Do you agree? Amendment 1 will make schoolboard races partisan meaning it will introduce the political party of each candidate into the race. This will cause people to vote for the candidate's party, NOT for the candidate's ability to improve our schools. Also, Florida is a closed Primary state. If school board elections become partisan, No Party Affiliate voters and independent voters will not have a say in choosing who runs for their child's school board. All parents should have representation regardless of Party. For these two important reasons, the Lee County Democratic Party is recommending for you to vote 'No' on Amendment 1. https://lnkd.in/djUGARtU

Do you know who is in charge of elections in SLO County? Or that it differs from who's in charge in other states? Here in California, the County Clerk-Recorder also serves as the Registrar of Voters and conducts elections for all Federal, State and County offices, as well as for school boards, special districts, and community service districts. City Clerks in each of the 7 local cities run elections for their city contests -- though those contests are generally combined with the others onto a single ballot that's printed and counted by the Clerk-Recorder in the Elections Office. If you're interested in digging into the specifics of local elections and how they vary from state to state, the United States Election Assistance Commission provides useful resources on their website at eac.gov/vote. And of course, you can always find in-depth information about our elections here at home on the SLO County Clerk-Recorder's website at https://lnkd.in/gESP3J7i.

Prop 133 is a measure proposing partisan primaries for partisan offices, and is one of the 2024 Arizona ballot initiatives voters will be deciding in this election. 🗳️ This is a proposed constitutional amendment put forth by the legislature and is a direct rebuttal to Prop 140, the Make Elections Fair Act. ❌ Arguments against Prop 133: By constitutionalizing partisan primaries, this measure makes it harder for registered Independents in Arizonans to participate in primary elections and pass responsive election reforms. Nearly 34% of registered voters in Arizona are registered as Independent. ✅ Arguments for Prop 133: This measure will preserve our current primary system for partisan offices and supports the right of people to associate with the party of their choice. Yesterday, voters across the nation made crucial choices in judicial elections. Here are a few notable takeaways: • In contested elections, incumbents on state high courts in Mississippi, North Carolina, and Ohio appear to have been defeated. • In Oklahoma, retention elections for three justices are too close to call. Two are slightly above 50% “yes” votes, while one is slightly below. • Over 75% of Arizona voters rejected a proposed amendment to remove retention elections from the state’s judicial selection system. • A majority of New Hampshire voters backed raising the mandatory retirement age for judges to 75, but the measure appears to have failed as it didn’t meet the required two-thirds majority. Prop 140 is known as the Make Elections Fair Act and is one of the 2024 Arizona ballot initiatives voters will be deciding in this election. 🗳️ This measure would open primary elections to all voters regardless of party affiliation, including independents. All candidates would appear on the same ballot and that ballot would be sent to all registered voters. ✅ Arguments for Prop 140: The number of independent voters is only growing in Arizona, with more and more people, including younger generations, trending to register as independent. Prop 140 will allow independent voters to more easily participate in Arizona primary elections and assist Arizonans in passing responsive election reforms. ❌ Arguments against Prop 140: Our current primary system for partisan offices should be preserved. Open primaries can make ballots longer and more complex. The existing primary system ensures equal and fair representation of each registered party so their voters have a voice in the General Election. Standing for Democracy and Accountability. Today, I had the privilege to testify before the Wisconsin Elections Commission, representing All Voting is Local Action and over 1,800 Wisconsinites who stand for free and fair elections. We are calling for the immediate resignation of Bob Spindell from the Wisconsin Elections Commission. His actions as a 2020 fake elector and his alarming remarks celebrating voter suppression in Black and Brown communities betray the trust that our elections are built on. As a mother and a proud Wisconsinite, I believe that every voter, regardless of race or political party, deserves respect and representation. Bob Spindell has failed in this responsibility, and today we made it clear: Wisconsinites deserve better. Together, we’re holding our leaders accountable and pushing for a more equitable democracy. #ProtectOurVote #FreeAndFairElections #DemocracyInAction #AccountabilityMatters #ResignBobSpindell #AllVotingisLocalAction

The Electoral College: A Complex Mechanism in US Presidential Elections** The Electoral College, conceived to balance the influence of populous states with that of smaller states in electing the president, presents a significant challenge in today’s political landscape. While it was designed to encourage candidates to appeal to a diverse voter base, it has drawn criticism for potentially disenfranchising voters, especially when election outcomes diverge from the popular vote. Current sentiment suggests a shift, with a majority of Americans now favoring direct elections, which could redefine the electoral process. As we navigate this ongoing debate, how do you see the role of the Electoral College evolving in future elections? What implications could a shift to a direct voting system have on democracy in the United States?

Our 2022 Post-Election Survey found that almost half of youth respondents (46%) were not contacted by any type of organization, candidate, or party prior to voting. Lack of outreach from campaigns and organizations can result in a lack of information or motivation that many respondents cited as reason for not voting. More than 2 in 5 young respondents in our survey (42%) said they had not heard much, or nothing at all, about their Congressional elections, and more than a third (36%) said the same about the voting process. College towns across the country tend to vote democratically based on previous elections: According to the American Communities Project, Democrats won in these areas in both the 2020 and 2016 presidential elections. Though there is a trend, the data alone can’t capture the thoughts and feelings of voters. Full article: https://lnkd.in/ertgsN5Y This article is part of the ACP's collaboration with The Free Press and Michigan State University students to tell the stories of voters, their experiences, and their political motivations in communities across Michigan this election season. #collegetowns #2024election #voices #voters
