📽️Getting young people back into employment and work-ready was a top priority highlighted in South Yorkshire's Community Foundation 2021 Vital Signs report. That's why we're really proud of our hugely successful Moving On Up programme. With the support of SYCF's generous donors - we've been able to invest £300,000 in 24 local groups to connect more young people with employers in South Yorkshire. 🙏 #ItsAGivingThing Andy Kershaw Media BA (Hons) Law, DMS

Have you ever wondered what the Warrant Clearing Event looks like? Community nonprofits, Oklahoma County judges, and attorneys from the offices of the Public Defender and District Attorney come together to help individuals clear their traffic, cost, and misdemeanor warrants in a low-pressure environment. People seeking assistance can get help without the fear of being arrested (and enjoy a yummy meal, which was provided by The Fried Taco at the last Warrant Clearing Event!) Why is this important? Warrants can create barriers to stable housing, employment, and other important resources. Many of the warrants being cleared are for low-level misdemeanors and some are more than a decade old. Some warrants are a result of missing a court date or because a person could not pay the fines and fees. These individuals are not a threat to public safety; they just need help navigating the process and getting back on track. Shoutout to Diversion Hub, LiveFree OKC, Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City, Inc. and TEEM - The Education and Employment Ministry Inc. for making these events so impactful! 💙

Gambling as a state revenue source: a bad idea. Republican policy makers (& neoLiberal Dem's) are greedily loving how a "revenue raising" scheme that taps into widespread addiction (especially among desperate masses) can help to relieve their superwealthy constituents of reasonable tax obligations. The best economists agree with Robert Reich, that progressive taxation & wealth taxes are proven MOST effective at helping to transfer massive amounts of wealth back to a struggling middle class - while providing a badly needed social safety net. From Roosevelt 1930's up until Carter, for example, our middle class grew greatly while the rich were taxed at higher rates - which still allows them to remain super-rich, but while incentivizing & prodding them to REINVEST in their employees and products. GAMBLING, along with 'value added' or consumption taxes, and flat taxes, all generally tend to be regressive, i.e, hurting the poor & struggling middle class taxpayers the most. A good article here at 'Fast Company' about the smarter government policies / representation which we MUST TRY to ELECT this November: 👉 https://lnkd.in/gTN5QkMM ⚖️🗳️ VOTE for progressive Democrats this November. 💪Let's take back our fair & just democracy. #regressivetax #gamblingAddiction #progressive #wealthtax #taxtherich ------- 6 April, 2024 -------

FYI, the lottery is a regressive tax disproportionately paid by the people who can least afford it, and little of the proceeds actually go to community funding. We should fund community services by taxing the rich, not by conning working people into thinking they'll become rich.

Nurture Development - Programmes are artificial constructs that enable the dance between funders and agencies. Programmes do not change lives, people do, and for that change to endure it must come grassroots up and be community-driven.
