Radar systems are essential for #autonomousdriving, but to achieve full autonomy, the number of radar sensors in each car needs to rise from one to around ten. This requires affordable yet high-performance solutions that are easy to integrate and replace on the car's exterior. The #MID4automotive #Xecs project will employ 3D-MID technology, which enables the three-dimensional placement of components and offers flexibility in designing the final module, to meet these needs. It was a pleasure to speak at the #SEMICONEuropa Fab Management Forum this year. The key messages of my presentation on how to approach modern #fab #trends for tools in #longterm #operation in three points: 1️⃣ Equipment in long-term operation is valuable AND outdated in many ways. Underlaying software may no longer be supported, #HMIs looked different in early 2000s and operators require deep knowledge of the system and hardware needs to be repared and EOL parts to be exchanged. At the same time, the tool is already in existence, placed in the production hall and well-known. 2️⃣ Modern fab trends: 🔷 High degree in #connectivity - #SECSGEM, #GEM300 🔷 #Cybersecurity (SEMI E187, SEMI E188 and SEMI E191) 🔷 Advanced data collection and analysis (#EDA) 🔷 Higher degree of #automation (#AGV, #OHT) These trends aim for cost reduction, high product output and process reliability. However, they currently cannot be met with all tools. A decision has to be made: New equipment or retrofit - and retrofit is the commercially more sustainable solution. 3️⃣ #SEMI-compliant connectivity, intuitive modern and future-proof control software and hardware upgrades and exchanges during a #retrofit set your equipment up for success, improving and securing its #availability and enabling the trends mentioned above for your whole fab. By scheduling retrofits with reasonable anticipation, the period for the #refurbishment can be reduced and unexpected downtimes will be avoided. A retrofit with us is a whole system approach, from #requirements anaysis for software and hardware, to project #realization, #commissioning and #support.
