Social relations and responsibilities in #water supply projects are often invisible and visually less impressive for the electorate when compared to water infrastructure, such as piped supply or boreholes. However, when not considered, they pose a significant barrier in achieving universal water access. During the workshop next week that takes place in #Kenya we aim to challenge that through a comprehensive dialogue on effective community collaboration and engagement in water supply projects, focusing on individual, intra-household, and group dynamics and how this informs sector. How are roles and responsibilities negotiated, challenged and contested in people’s houses, between donors and county governments, between operators and community elites? How are these processes documented, regulated and, most importantly, realised in practice? This platform intends to critically examine current trends, benefits, risks, and methods of community engagement, moreover, we will do so while considering the continuous impact of climate change on water supply projects. 2024 Africa Program Impact Report Highlights This year, Earth Law Center Africa made tremendous strides in advancing the Rights of Nature movement in Nigeria and South Africa. Our work focused on the River Ethiope Watershed and the Katampe Hill Waterfalls, protecting and restoring these critical ecosystems. Key Achievements: ✅Legal Framework: Drafted proposals to recognize River Ethiope and Katampe Hill Waterfalls as living entities with rights. ✅Restoration Projects: Implemented reforestation and pollution mitigation initiatives, enhancing ecological health. ✅ Partnerships: Collaborated with Nigeria Maritime University for ocean rights research and advocacy. ✅ Awareness & Education: Engaged 1,000+ stakeholders through campaigns and workshops. ✅ Recognition: Honored with the  2024 Environmental Stewardship Award for advancing eco-centric governance. Looking ahead to 2025, we aim to scale restoration projects, expand education programs, and formally advocate for legal personhood of these ecosystems.
