A year of war has devastated Sudan, created the world's largest displacement crisis, and sent economic and geopolitical shockwaves through already-fragile neighboring countries. Yet international efforts to exert pressure on warring parties' external backers and halt the violence have faltered, and the humanitarian response is woefully underfunded. In a new piece for The Lawfare Institute, IRC SVP Ciarán Donnelly and I write about the urgent need for new efforts to halt the violence in Sudan, safeguard access, and dramatically increase aid particularly for local groups working behind conflict lines. We also argue for new and sustainable approaches to help ensure populations in Sudan and neighboring countries impacted by both the war and decades of conflict, instability, and rapidly intensifying climate can rebuild their lives. The article is based on Ciaran's December trip to the Chad-Sudan border, and also links to IRC's new report including country team and client perspectives on the horrific impacts of a year of conflict on Sudan and the region. https://lnkd.in/e9-iba-H https://lnkd.in/eUaRAC_b

Sudan is facing the world's largest displacement crisis, with nearly 13 million people forced to flee their homes. Amid ongoing conflict, both sides are accused of using famine as a weapon of war, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian situation. Despite peace talks, the situation remains critical. It's crucial that the global community responds to this humanitarian emergency to prevent further catastrophe. #SudanCrisis #HumanRights #PeaceTalks https://lnkd.in/dPWNvD3R

Thanks to Canadian Dimension and Lital Khaikin for shining a spotlight on a too frequently ignored conflict and humanitarian crisis in Sudan. Canada must urgently put in place an anti-racist and equity centred policy framework to better guide our responses,--pleased this policy work is in development but I share here our concerns with the dire inadequacies of the current program. https://lnkd.in/eGaUAGbC 👇

This week, draft resolutions that sought to address the catastrophic humanitarian crises in Gaza and Sudan were not adopted by the UN Security Council due to two vetoes. Concern's CEO Dominic Crowley addressed the importance in taking immediate action to tackle these crises in a letter to The Irish Times. "Given the severity of needs in Sudan and Gaza, the United Nations and all of its member states must find a way to break the political deadlock and end the fighting, ensure safe, scaled-up humanitarian responses, and establish a lasting, peaceful settlement to these conflicts. The failure to do so will see famine and suffering spreading and exacting an even more horrific toll." Concern is on the ground in #Sudan providing humanitarian aid to those affected by conflict, as well as in neighbouring countries such as Chad and South Sudan, while we are supporting our partners on the ground in #Gaza. Chinese deputy permanent representative to the UN, Dai Bing, urges both parties to Sudan's conflict to secure a Ramadan ceasefire to minimize civilian casualties and prevent further spillover of the conflict to neighboring countries. The humanitarian situation in Sudan continues to worsen, and concessional donor aid is less than 5 percent funded, which is a major challenge to humanitarian relief efforts. Dare insists that humanitarian relief efforts should primarily aim to save lives and aid those in need, without politicization. He also stressed the need for traditional donors in particular to scale up financial and food aid to mitigate the impact of the conflict on people's lives and to avert an even greater humanitarian crisis. #AsiaRisk #GeopoliticalConflictandDisputes #China Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gKMUzxpD

As we reflect on the tragic anniversary of the conflict in Sudan, it is imperative that we do not allow the plight of its people to fade into the background amidst the numerous challenges facing our world today. With 9 million refugees and internally displaced individuals, and millions more on the brink of famine, Sudan's humanitarian crisis demands our urgent attention. While global focus understandably shifts to recent events in Ukraine and Gaza, we must not overlook Sudan's dire situation, which risks being relegated to the status of yet another distant conflict. The international community bears a collective responsibility to address the critical aid shortfall in Sudan, particularly in terms of food assistance. Those working tirelessly to bring an end to this conflict must redouble their efforts to achieve a lasting solution. The Canadian Centre for African Affairs and Policy Research echoes this urgency, calling for an immediate ceasefire to mitigate the escalating humanitarian catastrophe.

Is the American agenda the same as Israelies ? If so, is that agenda to remove Palestinians completely from the map of Israel? What is to stop Israel from exiling all Palestinians to Sinai and Lebanon? Lets Say Israel starts a war with Hizbollah on the west bank, and Then follows up with invading Lebanon with the same excuse. It would then be easy for Israel to create a «Fog of war scenario» that could paralize the World community further. This could in turn enable IDF to exile both Palistinians in Gaza to Sinai in Egypt by force, and The west bank Palestinians over to Lebaneese soil.
China in today's security council meeting on Gaza: "When pushing for the adoption of Resolution 2735 within the Council, the United States repeatedly claimed that Israel had accepted the agreement. However, than a month has passed. The Israeli military operations in Gaza have continued to expand, with recent attacks on several refugee camps, including Al Mawashi and Nusrat, causing massive casualties. At this moment, what Gaza needs is a hope for peace. Military operations will only cause more casualties among innocent civilians. They will not create conditions conducive to the rescue of hostages. We urge Israel to immediately cease all military operations in Gaza and to stop the collective punishment of the people of Gaza. … Expanding humanitarian access is an urgent need to ease the current situation. The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is a man made disaster. Hunger should not be weaponized nor humanitarian issues politicized. The closure of the floating pier has once again made it clear that land transportation routes are the most effective means to expand humanitarian access at scale for which there is no substitute. We condemn the attacks on humanitarian agencies and its personnel. … China urges Israel to fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law by lifting the blockade and opening all land crossings in Gaza so as to ensure a rapid, safe and large scale entry of humanitarian supplies and into Gaza."
