Robert's Rules of Order is the chosen pathway for conducting the business of the United Methodist Church General Conference. In your opinion is this the best option for the process? If it were up to you, would you opt for a different system? Check out this week's blog about General Conference to learn more about what happens there and get some important reminders as we watch the process unfold. #generalconference #kaykotan #robertsrulesoforder

What’s the world coming to when you can’t even count on a lion to do his job? I’m kidding, of course, but have you noticed all the videos of people petting, hugging, and playing with jungle cats, even sharks? Makes you wonder if anything you believed about these animals was true. Here are three lessons from these videos: 1. Animals behave according to how they are treated. Cats, no matter how big, will treat us with love and genuine affection if they are treated in the same way. However, it’s important to note that their basic needs for shelter and food must first be met, but once met, we get the best of any creature. Human beings are no exception. It makes you wonder what the world would be like if no human being had to worry about shelter, food, or medical bills. 2. Challenge your beliefs. Dean Schneider (in the video), Kevin Richardson et al. didn’t accept the common belief that these beasts are inherently savage. We hold similar misconceptions about certain persons, races, or nationalities—ideas that won’t test well. Just ask the Ku Klux Klan members whom Daryl Davis, a black musician, befriended. Daryl transformed many Klansmen’s negative beliefs about black people whom none of them, until Daryl, had ever even met. 3. Fear is self-fulfilling, but so is love. Anyone experienced with animals will always tell you that animals often become dangerous when in some stage of fear, and fear tends to reflect at whatever it’s directed against. Human beings are the same. What we bring to a situation comes back to us. So, why not choose love over fear? The lesson from these videos is that no one gets eaten when everyone is already full. It’s not too far of a leap to expect the same will be true for us. Meet people’s basic needs, and our savage nature will be tamed. The way to a better world is to first provide everyone with food, shelter, and health care, which we can achieve now. But first, we’ll need to challenge all of our negative ideas about each other. I wonder which is harder? 😎 https://lnkd.in/eCeFRj6d

Let us lift up a standard TODAY! Clear the way for the people; Build up, build up the highway, Remove the stones, lift up a standard over the peoples. (Isa. 62:10) The highway He is speaking about is the highway of holiness we are to walk upon (Isa. 35:8). The stones we are to remove are the sins in our lives. The standard we are to model and lift up and declare is that of righteousness and holiness unto the Lord. This is achieved by asking God what sins He wants to be removed from our lives, for the empowering to accomplish that task, and what standard(s) He would have us declare and model. For each of us, it will have a unique twist. Some will model holiness in the family God has given them. Some will model holiness in a business God has provided for them. Some will model holiness in the ministry they oversee. We do not take this light of Christ within us and hide it under a bushel. We don't hide under the separation of church and state (which is never mentioned in the Constitution), nor do we hide in fear of ridicule or that speaking truth may cost us something. We put God's light within us on a lamp stand, so it gives light to the surroundings. Today there is a desperate need for every Christian to walk this highway of holiness, remove the sins in their lives, and lift up a standard that lights the way for others. What are the standards that need to be lifted up? Look around at the standards the wicked are seeking to destroy. Family, genders, life itself, God, personal responsibility, national borders, sexuality. These are the issues God wants us to model and declare His standards concerning. Declare the 10 commandments (Ex. 20:1-10), the words of Scripture (2 Tim. 3:16), and the teachings of Jesus (Jn. 6:63). Pray: Pray for God to send angels to destroy powers and principalities. Call them down with the authority God has given you. Pray for revival to sweep through His church and our nation and all nations of the world. Pray for the wicked to be crushed under His feet and for him to put quicksand under their feet and to cause them to turn upon themselves.
