Two weeks came and went and the Olympics have already had their closing ceremony in Paris and their parade in Singapore. 23 athletes across 11 sports represented our small nation on the global & most prestigious athletic stage. I was away on business trip this past week and have been catching up on all the achievements and victories of team SG: • A bronze medal in kiteboarding from our youngest ever Singaporean Olympic medalist, 17-year-old kitefoiler Maximilian Maeder, • Two new national records in Women's 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle, swimmer Gan Ching Hwee, • The first Singaporean golfer to compete at the Olympics games, golfer Shannon Tan, • An end to a 12-year absence from the Olympics kayaking event, after missing out on the Tokyo Olympics by less than a second, canoeist Stephenie Chen, • Singapore's first Asian Games athletics champion since 1974, who bounced back from two scholarship rejections and came back stronger, sprinter Veronica Shanti, • And many, many more personal and athletic victories which paved these athletes' way to the Paris Olympic games this year. Success takes other forms than gold medals: Progress is success. Making history is success. Challenging yourself and competing alongside the world's best is success. Reaching personal goals and milestones is success. I am proud of the dedication and passion our Team Singapore has demonstrated in representing us to the rest of the world. Let's continue to challenge ourselves to do better and find joy in every victory no matter how great or small! We'll always have Paris. Congratulations to our Australian team who have now become our most successful Olympians, winning an all-time record of 18 gold medals, including 4 gold and two bronze medals in our best ever day. In a golden night we've won 4 gold in the women's pole vault, the men's dinghy sailing, men's skateboarding, and men's team pursuit, track cycling, beating the hot favourite UK team. Australia now stands third on the Olympics table, in the sporting superpower ranks just behind the United States and China and way ahead of the host nation France. With a few days left to go, Australia has already eclipsed medal records set in Sydney, Athens, London and Tokyo Olympics. And unlike the Tokyo Olympic blighted by COVID, our athletes have enjoyed the company and comfort of their families whilst competing in what is still probably the most beautiful backdrops that an Olympics has ever experienced. Outside of a few disappointments, particularly the Matildas, the Australian team has performed beyond expectations, and its members will be immortalised for decades to come. It's also a great morale booster for Australia, still struggling to kick clear of the financial and social setbacks of the COVID pandemic. How this Olympic team became the best ever, and what was the secrets of their success, is likely to be the subject of intense analysis, for individuals, teams and organisations seeking to emulate their achievements in other walks of life. #AustraliaBestEverOlympicTeam #Olympics2024

The Kenya Olympic team selection is finally done. Good luck getting on that team!!. To qualify for the 2024 Olympics Marathon - you must have a time of 2:08 (men) or 2:26 (women). Many countries won't have any runners with that time. Kenya can easily send 50-100 athletes with that time. This shows how difficult it is to get on the team. Here is who got on the team:- Benson **** He has finished 1, 2, or 3 in his last 7 major marathons and has been very consistent over the years. His last win was the 2024 Tokyo Marathon, which he won in 2:02:16 - a course record previously held by Eliud. Eliud *** The only person to have completed a full marathon in under 2 hours. A 2-time Olympic gold medallist - looking to be the first person to win that gold three times. Former world record marathon holder. Before switching to the marathon, he'd won a couple of Olympic medals in the 5000-meter race at two previous Olympic races. Alex **** Just won the London Marathon last month. He had to win it to get a shot at the Olympic slot. Women's team Peres **** Just broke the women's only record when winning the London marathon last month. She is the defending Olympic champion. She's never finished outside the top 3 in a major marathon. Helen Obiri **** Has won countless titles in the middle-distance space, including Olympic medals. She switched to the marathon after the last Olympics and has now won Boston (twice) and London once. Brigid K *** Silver medalist at the last Olympic, previous world record holder, with other wins in major races. She has run 15 races since 2015 and has finished either 1st or 2nd, except in two races where she came in 4 and 8th When interviewed, they talked about pushing themselves and training day after day, with a firm eye on the prize. Their advice to any aspiring runners is to find the right environment and the right community, stay committed to your program, stay humble, and ignore everyone else around you - my initial reaction was - Yes, ignore the scary headlines. - Have an investing plan and stick to it. - Don't let anybody discourage you on your financial journey! So looking forward to the summer games!!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow me for more tips on financial planning issues for foreign-born (immigrants) and foreign nationals on work visas. 🇳🇱 CG meets 🇨🇳 Olympic champions 🥇from Guangdong Province The Paris 2024 Olympic Games was with 40 gold🥇27 silver🥈and 24🥉bronze medals the best performance for Team China 🇨🇳 in the Olympic Games held overseas. “It was an honor to meet with the Gold Medal winners from the Guangdong Province. Behind every medal there is its own unique story. That is what makes top sport so beautiful. I also see in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and China 🇨🇳 a common thread that connects all these unique medals: resilience and perseverance and I have an incredible amount of respect for that” Consul General Efstathios Andreou stated. 🧡 The summer Olympics, Dutch athletes have secured 56 medals, with swimming and cycling as the leading medal winning sports. The Netherlands with a population of 18 million, brought home 15 gold medals, ranking in the top 10 globally by golds per person. 🧡 The Netherlands is a sport powerhouse. In 2023, an impressive 56% of the Dutch population aged 4+ played sports weekly – a rise from 53% in 2022. Even more inspiring is the rise in weekly sport participation among people with physical disabilities, from 23% to 29%.

Exciting news for triathlon fans and athletes! 🇫🇷🏊♂️🚴♀️🏃♂️ France has just been added to the T100 Triathlon World Tour calendar for 2025, marking a significant expansion of this prestigious event. As someone who's followed the growth of triathlon over the years, I can't help but reflect on how far we've come. I remember when triathlon was considered a niche sport. Now, it's capturing global attention and drawing elite athletes from all corners of the world. This addition of France to the T100 calendar isn't just about another race. It represents: 1. The sport's growing international appeal 2. Increased opportunities for athletes to compete at the highest level 3. A boost for local economies through sports tourism But here's what I'm really curious about: • How will this impact the competitive landscape? • What unique challenges might the French course present? • Are we seeing the beginning of a new "golden age" for triathlon? Whether you're a seasoned triathlete or a casual fan, this is an exciting development to watch. It's a reminder that our sport is constantly evolving and reaching new heights. What are your thoughts on this expansion? Are you planning to compete or spectate in France in 2025? New Post: Olympic Triathlon Mixed Relay In Seine To Go Ahead Monday - https://lnkd.in/gDtGy8PA Image for representative use© X (Twitter) The Olympic triathlon mixed relay will go ahead as planned Monday, organisers said, despite two days of training in the River Seine being cancelled and a Belgian triathlete falling sick. "The latest test results confirm that the water quality of the Seine at the triathlon site has improved over the last hours, and the prospective tests indicate the water quality will be within the acceptable limits according to World Triathlon," Paris Games organisers said in a statement on Sunday. A decision was initially due to be made overnight Sunday to Monday based on bacteriological results from 24 hours before, but it was brought forward at the request of the triathlon teams to allow athletes more time to prepare. The men's triathlon was postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday earlier this week because of pollution problems, with competitors only finding out around 4:00 am on the morning of the scheduled race.Belgian triathlete Claire Michel fell "sick" after taking part in the women's race on Wednesday, the Belgian National Olympic Committee (COIB) said.As a result of her illness, her country will not take part in the mixed relay."The COIB and Belgian Triathlon hope that the lessons will be learned for future triathlon competitions at the Olympics," the committee said in a statement.(This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is auto-generated from a syndicated feed.) 🎇 Let's celebrate with the ‘official’ 2024 Olympics "Made In France" Mascot! 💡 Kiwi pop-quizz - Did you know? ! 💪 The New Zealand Team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has 195 athletes The team will compete across more sports than ever before at the Olympic Games, with New Zealand's athletes to contest 23 sports. The Games will mark New Zealand's Olympic debut in 🏄♂️ kiteboarding and 🧗♀️ speed climbing. The team is close to gender equal, made up of 98 men ♂ and 97 women♀ Auckland has produced the largest number of athletes, with 58 team members hailing from the region. Canterbury is next with 24, Wellington 18, the Waikato 17, and Bay of Plenty 14 New Zealand’s youngest athlete is footballer ⚽ Milly Clegg who is just 18 years old, while equestrian athlete 🐎 Tim Price is the oldest team member at 45 🥇 Check out these top 10 Kiwi medal prospects. Apparently, New Zealand has been tipped to capture 14 medals, including four gold, according to Nielsen's Gracenote Sports, which provides statistical analysis of major sporting events around the world. Of course, the Olympics have already kicked off as NZ has had our own little spy 🕵♀️ scandal with the devious, dastardly Canadians flying a drone to spy on New Zealand national women’s team on two separate occasions at the Paris Olympics. Why the eighth ranked team in the world feels the need to spy on the 28th ranked team is anyone's guess, and they duly beat us 2-1. Any questions about that win ??

It even won the most medals in 1992 after the dissolution of the “Soviet Union”. 🏊♂️🚴♀️🏃♂️ Tragic News from the World Triathlon Championships in Torremolinos, Spain 🇪🇸 Yesterday's event turned from competitive spirit to a heartbreaking scene as we learned about the passing of two fellow triathletes, one from Britain and one from Mexico, during the Age Group Sprint Distance World Championships. This devastating news hits close to home as every athlete represents not just a competitor, but a community member, a friend, and a passionate spirit in the triathlon world. Having experienced the rigor and challenge of triathlon myself, I understand the physical and mental demands placed on all who participate. It's a reminder of the risks athletes face in pursuit of their sport and the importance of stringent safety measures. 🤔 Have you ever faced unexpected challenges during competitive events? How did it impact your perspective on the sport? I encourage all of us in the sports community to take a moment to remember the competitors we've lost, to consider how we can support safety in sports, and to connect with each other during these painful times. Let’s share experiences and thoughts on how to improve safety protocols in our respective sports. Let’s honor their memory by continuing to pursue our sport interests with renewed focus on health and safety for all athletes. #Triathlon #SafetyInSports #AthleteHealth #Torremolinos #WorldChampionships Discover more tips, insights, and resources by visiting our site at https://lnkd.in/gf2jZ2du

Olympic Marathon pourTous (Paris, France (2024/08/10)): 3:44:10 No ranking (Open race for 20024 starters marathon) My own Olympic race. Running in the dust and footsteps of the Olympians was made true in Paris 2024. Having won a running challenge (out of many) late June 2023, the plan was to do great. Season 2024 having been on hold due to health issues, it was a surprise to even been able to train for this race. With a route far from easy, with major hills 15-20km and a 13% climb of 1.7km at km29. Exactly what I like...not! The plan: finish the race, if possible 3:15-30, due to the race elevation profile. Training was done on the base 3:05-10 (flat), hills were included, night runs and nutrition tests too. Got to Paris 2 days earlier. Nicest place on Earth under the Olympic Games 🌞 Calm, fun, smiles. Got my BIB the day prior to the race. And that was it. No visit and total rest until the race. Well, I did check the men's marathon cheering out loud to the French, the Swede, and all Olympians. Brutal! Checked the race replay afterwards to see the course better. 2pm: Final food intake, completed by sport drinks. 7:30pm: Got to the bag drop a bit early, met French runners I will meet again in future championships, made my way to the start and wave #1. Wait in 28°C, and the sun still up. 8:45pm: Starting to move towards the start, the crowd is already loud. Countdown starts... 9:00pm: BAM! All runners move towards the empty streets ahead, with so much crowd in both sides of the road. No time to think. Trying not to fall, skip those filming rather than running, already first turn, already 1km down. Loud is an understatement. The screaming of the crowd just carries us forward. Already at the Opera. Slightly different route than I thought, but ok. Km3 is soon down, place Vendôme ahead. Passing so many buildings and beauties of Paris, I cannot list all of them. Along Le Louvres, passing the Pyramid, turning right on the cobblestones, and 5km disappeared in 23min. I missed the Olympic torch lifting in the air, focusing on the tunnel to run down and up. And another one. My legs are not liking those, pounding on the pavement. Passing the Eiffel tower on the left, I just count the time needed to get to km12. Passing it under 5min/km, good. This is time spared, ahead of the long hilly party. Km15, 1h12. And the climb starts. Nothing hard, nor easy, but steady. I walk. I jog. Try to anticipate what's coming, but no success in that. Loose so much time and km20 is reached at my expected halfway time. The run up to halfway is tough. This annoying stuff in my throat is back, full speed. I stop. Difficult to breathe and swallow. Throwing up. Walk again. Drink water. Throw some more water on my hair to cool down. Downhill already... (cont'. below in comments)
