360 Insights... Paris24 is just around the corner - so close we can almost touch it. And it couldn't have come at a better time - we all need a little Olympic Fever to re-ignite the spark and remind us all of what’s possible. Don’t get us wrong, we know the pain and anguish on the road to Olympic glory, but for now let’s focus in on what’s ahead over the next couple of weeks & celebrate some hard earned wins. There’s plenty to choose from, but we’ve got our eyes honed in on these particular #TeamGB superstars going for gold… 1. 🌊 Tom Daley - Diving Legend Event: Men's 10m synchro Date: 29 July Would it even be a proper Olympics without Tom Daley? He's competing in his fifth Olympic Games - a feat never achieved by a British diver before. After securing his first gold medal at Tokyo 2020 he returns, inspired by his young son Robbie, to defend his title alongside Noah Williams. 2. Helen Glover - Rowing Icon 🚣♀️ Event: Women's Four Date: 28 July (heats), 1 August (final) Helen is back for her third Olympic comeback, aiming for her third gold medal. As a mother of three, her journey from retirement to top-level competition is a testament to her unparalleled dedication and resilience. 3. 🎾 Andy Murray - Tennis Great Event: Men's singles, men's doubles Date: Starts 27 July Andy Murray, a two-time Olympic gold medallist, considers the Olympics one of the most special experiences of his career. Paris 2024 will mark his farewell to professional tennis, making this appearance even more poignant 😥 4. Sky Brown - Skateboard Pro 🚣♀️ Event: Women's Park Date: 8 August At just 16, Sky Brown is already a seasoned Olympian, having won bronze in Tokyo at age 13. Known for her self-taught skills and youthful exuberance, she's ready to take on Paris with even more ambition and talent. 5. 🛹 Andy MacDonald - Skateboarding Legend Event: Men's Park Date: 7 August Andy, at 50, is breaking stereotypes in the youth-dominated sport of skateboarding. Known as the 'Rad Dad,' he's not only a pioneer but also an enduring inspiration, showcasing that passion and skill have no age limit. If you know, you know 😉 6. Amber Rutter - Shooting Star 🎯  Event: Women's Skeet Date: 2-4 August Amber had two key dates circled on her 2024 calendar: the start of the Paris Games and the due date of her first child. Having given birth to her son Tommy just three months ago, she is determined to land the Olympic medal that has so far evaded her, and make her little guy proud! Two weeks came and went and the Olympics have already had their closing ceremony in Paris and their parade in Singapore. 23 athletes across 11 sports represented our small nation on the global & most prestigious athletic stage. I was away on business trip this past week and have been catching up on all the achievements and victories of team SG: • A bronze medal in kiteboarding from our youngest ever Singaporean Olympic medalist, 17-year-old kitefoiler Maximilian Maeder, • Two new national records in Women's 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle, swimmer Gan Ching Hwee, • The first Singaporean golfer to compete at the Olympics games, golfer Shannon Tan, • An end to a 12-year absence from the Olympics kayaking event, after missing out on the Tokyo Olympics by less than a second, canoeist Stephenie Chen, • Singapore's first Asian Games athletics champion since 1974, who bounced back from two scholarship rejections and came back stronger, sprinter Veronica Shanti, • And many, many more personal and athletic victories which paved these athletes' way to the Paris Olympic games this year.   Success takes other forms than gold medals: Progress is success. Making history is success. Challenging yourself and competing alongside the world's best is success. Reaching personal goals and milestones is success.   I am proud of the dedication and passion our Team Singapore has demonstrated in representing us to the rest of the world. Among the sports with the highest medal counts are track and field and swimming, with 344 and 257 gold medals, respectively. American swimmer, Michael Phelps, has won more medals than any Olympic athlete ever, with 23 gold medals under his belt. Going further, almost 25% of all U.S. gold medals in Summer Olympic sports are from swimming. Ranking in second is the former Soviet Union, with 395 gold medals. During a period of heightened focus on elite athleticism during the Cold War, the USSR earned more medals than any other country during the 1956-1992 Summer Olympics, with the exception of 1968. It even won the most medals in 1992 after the dissolution of the “Soviet Union”. With 284 Summer Olympic gold medals, Great Britain falls next, thanks to its success in rowing, cycling, and track and field. Between 1984 and 2016, the Great Britain Team won a gold medal in rowing at every Summer Olympics game. Since returning to the Summer Olympics in 1984 after 30-year absence, China ranks fourth worldwide. Approximately 75% of Olympic gold medals have come from six sports, all found in the Summer Olympic Games. Here’s what’s on the roster: Breaking (Breakdancing): Making its Olympic debut, breaking originated in the Bronx in the 1970s as a style of dance within hip-hop culture. Now, it’s a competitive sport with international events and world championships. Sixteen men and sixteen women (known as “B-Boys” and “B-Girls”) will compete, showcasing their creativity, technique, and musicality in one-on-one battles. Men’s Artistic Swimming: A new discipline within artistic swimming, where male athletes will perform synchronized routines in the water. 🇳🇱 CG meets 🇨🇳 Olympic champions 🥇from Guangdong Province The Paris 2024 Olympic Games was with 40 gold🥇27 silver🥈and 24🥉bronze medals the best performance for Team China 🇨🇳 in the Olympic Games held overseas. “It was an honor to meet with the Gold Medal winners from the Guangdong Province. There is no better way to celebrate Canada than to marvel at our performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It was remarkable and historic. With twenty-seven medals, including nine gold medals, Canada set new records surpassing previous highs from the Tokyo 2020 Games and the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. A standing ovation goes out to the athletes and all who support them, including their coaches, agents, sponsors, and the Canadian Olympic Committee. Olympic Marathon pourTous (Paris, France (2024/08/10)): 3:44:10 No ranking (Open race for 20024 starters marathon) My own Olympic race. Running in the dust and footsteps of the Olympians was made true in Paris 2024. Having won a running challenge (out of many) late June 2023, the plan was to do great. Season 2024 having been on hold due to health issues, it was a surprise to even been able to train for this race. With a route far from easy, with major hills 15-20km and a 13% climb of 1.7km at km29. Exactly what I like...not! The plan: finish the race, if possible 3:15-30, due to the race elevation profile. Training was done on the base 3:05-10 (flat), hills were included, night runs and nutrition tests too. Got to Paris 2 days earlier. Nicest place on Earth under the Olympic Games 🌞 Calm, fun, smiles. Got my BIB the day prior to the race. And that was it. No visit and total rest until the race. Well, I did check the men's marathon cheering out loud to the French, the Swede, and all Olympians. Brutal! Checked the race replay afterwards to see the course better. 2pm: Final food intake, completed by sport drinks. 7:30pm: Got to the bag drop a bit early, met French runners I will meet again in future championships, made my way to the start and wave #1. Wait in 28°C, and the sun still up. 8:45pm: Starting to move towards the start, the crowd is already loud. Countdown starts... 9:00pm: BAM! All runners move towards the empty streets ahead, with so much crowd in both sides of the road. No time to think. Trying not to fall, skip those filming rather than running, already first turn, already 1km down. Loud is an understatement. The screaming of the crowd just carries us forward. Already at the Opera. Slightly different route than I thought, but ok. Km3 is soon down, place Vendôme ahead. Passing so many buildings and beauties of Paris, I cannot list all of them. Along Le Louvres, passing the Pyramid, turning right on the cobblestones, and 5km disappeared in 23min. I missed the Olympic torch lifting in the air, focusing on the tunnel to run down and up. And another one. My legs are not liking those, pounding on the pavement. Passing the Eiffel tower on the left, I just count the time needed to get to km12. Passing it under 5min/km, good. This is time spared, ahead of the long hilly party. Km15, 1h12. And the climb starts. Nothing hard, nor easy, but steady. I walk. I jog. Try to anticipate what's coming, but no success in that. Loose so much time and km20 is reached at my expected halfway time. The run up to halfway is tough. This annoying stuff in my throat is back, full speed. I stop. Difficult to breathe and swallow. Throwing up. Walk again. Drink water. Throw some more water on my hair to cool down. Downhill already... (cont'. below in comments)

The Most Successful Athlete in the Paralympic History The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games concluded on September 8th. Having won 55 medals (41 gold, 9 silver and 5 bronze) and broken 8 world records at the Paralympics in swimming, Trischa Zorn raised the bar for Paralympic athletes. Zorn was an athlete of swimming in every Paralympic Games from 1980 in Arnhem, Netherlands to 2004 in Athens, Greece. In her first games in 1980, she won seven gold medals and collected several more throughout the years. At the 1992 games in Barcelona, she topped the individual medal table with ten gold medals and two silver. She won more medals than any other athlete at the 1996 games in Atlanta with two gold, three silver and three bronze. Throughout the years, she has held eight world records in the 50 m backstroke, 100 m backstroke, 200 m backstroke, 200 m individual medley, 400 m individual medley, 200 m breaststroke, 4×50 m medley relay and 4×50 m free relay. She was inducted into the Paralympic Hall of Fame in 2012. Today, Zorn is giving back to the sport of swimming through coaching and mentoring other swimmers, from beginners to masters. Trischa was born on June 1, 1964 with aniridia. This is a congenital eye condition caused by a dysfunction in the PAX6 gene, the gene responsible for eye development. This condition causes the eye to stop developing prematurely. The only treatment for aniridia is a surgery involving a synthetic iris replacement, which reduces the amount of light entering the eyes. Before Zorn received surgery, she could only see objects that were a few feet in front of her. After the surgery, her vision improved from 20/1100 to 20/850. Why the eighth ranked team in the world feels the need to spy on the 28th ranked team is anyone's guess, and they duly beat us 2-1. Any questions about that win ??
