Are we witnessing the death of fashion as we know it; or the birth of something far more sustainable and imaginative? Innovation theorists like Joseph Schumpeter might call this moment ‘creative destruction’: the old ways of fashion are crumbling, making way for AI-driven sustainability. Good ol' fashioned Panarcy Loop for the innovation nerds in the house. But as Ron Adner would warn, innovation success hinges on the entire ecosystem evolving together. Therefore the question isn’t just if AI will transform fashion, but whether the industry can adapt its systems, materials, and culture to make the transformation meaningful. What’s your take: A revolution? or A reinvention? https://lnkd.in/ggzsFRkc

𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗹 𝗕𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗔 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗼𝗻 Fast fashion is out of control—cheap, mass-produced clothes are filling closets and landfills. But what if we had a business model that promotes high-quality fashion, traceability, and circularity? "Apparel Bundling" is one way. Imagine a subscription service where you access a rotating wardrobe for a fixed fee. No more buying fast fashion—“borrow” premium pieces, reducing waste and overproduction. Think of it as "Netflix for your closet". With "traceability tech" (e.g., digital product passports), every piece of clothing can be tracked, ensuring transparency in sourcing, production, and recycling. This incentivizes manufacturers to create durable, ethically produced garments. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝘄? 1. Tech Is Ready: Blockchain and AI-enabled traceability are here. 2. Sustainability Is Key: Consumers demand ethical fashion. 3. Fashion Needs a Slowdown: Fast fashion is unsustainable. Let’s shift to "quality over quantity". 𝗩𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆? - Manufacturers focus on creating longer-lasting products that benefit margins and sustainability. - Consumers get style variety with a clear conscience. - Tech drives transparency and accountability in the supply chain. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀: - Consumer Adoption: Will people let go of owning clothes and subscribe instead? - Scalability: Can a platform support variety and quality? - Cost: Can subscription costs remain affordable while maintaining quality? 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀? Could this model be the solution to fast fashion’s unsustainable pace? What are the potential roadblocks? Remember, we cant stop Fast fashion just by introducing legislation or blocking platforms or services :) we have to be creative in developing new business models that are a win win for the whole ecosystem . Let’s start a conversation about how we can reshape fashion’s future—promoting quality, traceability, and circularity in a world that desperately needs it. The intersection of fashion and sustainability is a complex one, and from my observations, it's clear that the industry has yet to find an effective strategy for widespread change. The outdated structures of our industry and its supply chains are significant obstacles to achieving true eco-friendliness. However, a potential solution could lie in refining our approach to align more closely with the principle of producing what people genuinely want, informed by real data and feedback. This concept essentially aims to harmonize supply with demand within the fashion sector. The urgency for such a shift is underscored by the vast volumes of returned products and unsold stock that end up being concealed, incinerated, or conveniently shipped off to other countries. Achieving a system where production meets actual demand could usher in a new era of sustainability in fashion like we've never seen before. The tools and technologies required for this transformation, particularly the advent of artificial intelligence in the fashion industry, are already within our grasp. The challenge lies in how businesses can scale these solutions to effect substantial change from a granular level. While monumental achievements don't happen overnight—Rome wasn't built in a day, after all—even small, incremental adjustments can pave the way for meaningful and lasting sustainability in the fashion industry. #fashion #sustainability #freelance #tech

The disconnect between fashion's ongoing quest for sustainability and the success of fast fashion giants like Shein is real. Most of the industry is scrambling to find sustainability solutions that actually work and can coexist with large YoY growth goals, which is part of the reason success has been elusive. Making more items, selling more to customers faster and more often is not a retail model that can support real sustainability. Brands that want to achieve growth while working to actually become more sustainable and reduce waste need to focus on margin/merchandising, product quality and their customer experience. The long term success of creating real value for your customers will take your brand much further than trying to compete with fast fashion models.

Democratizing of Fashion What would this mean? How would this impact the design process? Why is this significant to triple bottom line - people, planet and profit? Democratization has become a reality in industries of marketing, publishing, music, communications, ecommerce, creative writing ——- giving creative tools to end consumer to create value and humanize a product. We believe the next era of fashion is leveraging technology and innovation towards extending digital tools to end consumers to co-create with brands in the design process. Partnership and collaboration is key to this next step of innovation and we have already started this journey. Take a look at these photos of jackets created by customers in partnership with brand and production houses, utilizing their wardrobe and brands deadstock materials. Slow customized fashion, celebrating hands and hearts along the way, increasing the value of a garment involving stakeholder engagement. Are we ready? #democratizationoffashion #fashiontech #upcycling #customization #circularfashion #bcorp #sustainablefashion

🤔How can fashion companies make less but still earn well? Today's fashion model often says more production equals better margins and more profit. We all agree that making too much, more than needed, isn't the right path anymore. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲? It's unrealistic to think fashion businesses will stop caring about profit. After all, this profit supports the livelihoods of people in the industry, not just the significant corporate gains. Could Technology pave the way for sustainable, circular business models where less is produced and sold, yet profits remain solid or improve? I'm convinced it can! 💡Technology can lead us to on-demand manufacturing on a large scale. This means making only what's needed, cutting down waste, and saving costs, thanks to automation. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿? 💡 Technology allows us to consider bringing production closer to home and working with local craftspeople for repairs or upgrades. It also allows us to build global networks to expand these practices. 💡With a digital passport, each item can carry all the info needed for repair, enhancement, or customization. 💡Tech also enables us to design clothing so that parts can be reused or transformed into something new later. The opportunities are endless. I truly believe Technology is our best shot at achieving a fashion industry that's both profitable and sustainable on a large scale. 🤔 Do you think technology is the answer to sustainable profitability in fashion? 💬 How can we further leverage tech to foster circularity and reduce waste in the industry? #SustainableFashion #TechInFashion #CircularEconomy #FashionInnovation #fashiontech
