What does the word NetZero mean to you? This afternoon I was kindly invited by Abbie Wesson and the team at E.ON UK to explore how best to mobilise legacy #skills activity linked to the incredible Heat Zone work happening across South #Yorkshire. Yes, Tinsley Towers "they were ours" but what of the critical importance this site will play in scaling our regional and national economy ... 🔥 It WILL fuel our communities - By 2050, the UK needs to source 20% of its heat from a sustainable heat network, we currently only utilise 3% from this activity. 👩🏭 It WILL create and develop new jobs (40,000 staff needed in #construction linked activity alone). 💚 It WILL (and is doing so already) change the way that we identify with and see #greenjobs in action . As a result of investing here, in #Sheffield, this is a unique opportunity for the region to become a net exporter of the skills needed to grow essential and emerging markets within the UK and beyond. Exactly the type of activity that brings together multidisciplinary skills and training, like we're offering here at Skills Street - https://lnkd.in/eGe4NwVh #socialvalue #lifelonglearning #whatsonyourdoorstep #skillsfornow

At Premier, one of our favourite aspects of taking on a new project is the opportunity to get out on the ground and truly immerse ourselves in the local community. 'Ground truthing' – getting to know what makes each town unique – is central to how we approach engagement. It’s about understanding the values, needs, and aspirations that define a community. We’ve seen firsthand that a one-size-fits-all approach simply doesn’t work. Each town has its own character, and by taking the time to listen and learn, we build a solid foundation for engagement. This ensures that any project we’re involved in happens with the community, not to them. It's more than communication; it’s collaboration. We believe that the most successful projects are those where the community’s voice is part of the decision-making process, driving outcomes that reflect what matters most to them. It also helps to understand communities when a large portion of our talented team is country at heart, with our Head Office located in regional Victoria. Enjoy a few clips from the Premier team getting out on the ground. #communityengagement #ruralcommunities #stakeholderengagement #groundtruthing #regionalaustralia

So excited that today we launch our new Carbon Action Fund, designed to help small and medium-sized businesses in the West Oxfordshire district reduce their carbon footprint and become more climate resilient. Supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF), the scheme offers financial backing for capital projects that promote sustainability. Grants ranging from £10,000 to £20,000 will help businesses achieve their sustainability goals. This is a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to invest in initiatives that will cut their energy use, reduce costs, and deliver lasting environmental benefits, such as making buildings more energy efficient or installing renewable energy systems like solar panels. By helping businesses make these improvements, we’re not only supporting them to become more sustainable and adaptive to climate challenges, but also contributing towards West Oxfordshire District Council's broader sustainability and net-zero ambitions. Eligible projects must focus on capital improvements that promote sustainability. Examples include: - Retrofitting buildings for improved energy efficiency, such as insulation, low-carbon heating, and smart energy controls. - Installing renewable energy systems, including solar panels and battery storage. - Supporting the transition to electric vehicles through the installation of EV chargers. - Purchasing equipment to enhance waste reduction and recycling efforts. - Implementing green infrastructure like living walls, green roofs, or water conservation systems. Applications for the scheme are now open and businesses are encouraged to submit their proposals by Monday 4 November 2024, with all successful projects to be completed by 28 February 2025. Please note that due to the anticipated high demand, not all eligible applications may be funded. Building on my previous post, I want to share the personal journey that I went through during my international assignment in Cape Town 10 years ago. Towards the end of my assignment, I received news about a family emergency. I had to return home urgently on the last day to be with my children, allowing my wife to travel back to her family. This unforeseen incident reminded me of the critical role family plays in our development, even within our careers. It was during this time of emotional turbulence that I truly realized: • The strength family provides, enabling us to excel in our professional duties. • The importance of being a support system for loved ones, balancing professional ambitions with personal responsibilities. • How resilience isn’t just built in boardrooms or through demanding projects, but in the quiet strength drawn from family during challenging times. Such experiences underscore the symbiotic relationship between our personal and professional lives. They teach us invaluable lessons in empathy, resilience, and the true meaning of success. Reflecting on my journey today, I acknowledge how the support and grounding of my family, and my wife specifically, have been instrumental in shaping the leader I am. Remember, success isn't just the title we hold or the projects we conquer, but also the strong support system we nurture and rely upon. Our families play an irreplaceable role in our growth, offering strength during adversity and joy in achievements. #CareerGrowth #FamilySupport #PersonalDevelopment #ProfessionalGrowth
