#SDGsIRL - This is a good start and might help people engage with, and participate in, the delivery of SDGs in Ireland. As they say in Finland 🇫🇮 🇫🇮🇫🇮, "it's the whole class that matters!". Finland is No. 1 for SDGs in Europe 🏆🏆🏆 What can we learn from them? We need more information on SDG data, targets, achievements, barriers, fostering leadedship, etc... All the contact details are there - please get stuck in and share!!!! E.G. SDG11 starts on page 66... e.g. we need Target Vacancy Levels of 5-7% for ground floor commerical in town centres and not the 35+% vacancy levels that we currently have in Ireland 🇮🇪 (+ 80% on the upper floors of town centres!). Whereas Ground Floor vacancy: Denmark = 5% 🇩🇰 and Netherlands = 6.8% 🇳🇱 #collaboration #data #matters #vacancy #targets #evaluation The weblink to the doc is here - please scroll down: https://lnkd.in/eXWt2aQC

The City Region Deal is working to create new economic opportunities, jobs and to reduce inequalities across Edinburgh and Southeast Scotland (ESES). As part of achieving these objectives, the Workforce Mobility (WFM) Project is identifying and supporting sustainable long-term solutions, influencing policy and behaviour change to enable the reduction of transport barriers to employment, training, and further education in the region. To support these activities, the WFM Project has drafted The Sustainable Travel Employer Initiatives, Funding, and Tax Incentives document. This document details a set of measures and information to support employers in the promotion and investment in active and sustainable commuting of their employees. It contains detailed guidance on Fiscal Incentives and capital allowances available to employers for investment in infrastructure that supports more walking and cycling to work and greater use of public transport by employees. This information will be updated each tax year and should be used as guidance only. Follow the link for the latest version 👇 https://bit.ly/3XBawCo

🌟 Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the South West Procurement Alliance Social Value Conference, and was thrilled to discover how closely the themes and takeaways align with the work we are doing 🤝 in community rail. Discussions around social value for industry and public sector partners demonstrated the need for place-based approaches coupled with meaningful community participation. I'm proud that Gloucestershire Community Rail Partnership and Oxfordshire Community Rail Partnership are putting these principles at the forefront of everything we do. 💡 Our innovative approaches, including co-creation, youth-led research, and interactive place-based interventions, allow us to gather invaluable insights and create lasting impact for local communities and places. 📣 Some key takeaways from the conference: 1. The importance of a lifecycle commitment to social value 🌱 2. The need to measure non-monetary benefits 📊 3. The value of attracting diverse talent 🌈 4. The power of building a network of social enterprises 🌐 5. Local place and people need to be at the heart of decision making We are dedicated to reducing the gap between local communities, rail, travel and our industry partners while delivering measurable social value. I left inspired to commit to collaborating further so as to create a brighter future for all! 💫 If you share a passion for social value driven by a place-based focus driving community benefit, please get in touch🤝 #SocialValue #CommunityEngagement #YouthRepresentation #SWPAConference

You may have heard or may have concluded something from previous posts, but let’s say it out loud: I am retiring end of June. I have always said that no work is better than mine, so the future looks bright with “no work ahead” for me. 😉 I have always enjoyed my work: designing and delivering international environmental grant schemes, being one of the concern controllers at the former Ministry of VROM, and for the last third of my career Interreg and all and everything that came with it, such as the #INFORM network in the last few years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Marisa Gerards for having the confidence in 2010 to let me make the change from Finance (Interreg Auditing) to Content (Interreg Monitoring/Steering). And Interreg has become the love of my life – that is no secret, as many of you say they can tell from my posts here. I have thoroughly enjoyed the spirit of cooperation, and I truly believe (international) cooperation will always bring us further. It is now time to leave that to new representatives. Many of you have asked: what will you do after your retirement? “Sit behind the geraniums?” That is a Dutch expression for being redundant, so I hope not. I decided to wait a few months before making any big plans. To rephrase House Stark’s (Game of Thrones) motto: “Summer is coming”, so my hiking shoes and my bike are waiting to be taken out. But work is not over yet. One of the perks of working in different international settings is, apart from the glamour 😉, that you can’t say goodbye in just one big party. There will be a few more “last times” in the weeks to come. So bear with me if I share some more of these moments. You all mean the world to me, so weird as it may sound I look forward to properly saying goodbye to all of you. And as you know: I like to share those moments! So I will keep you posted. 📷 Judging from the few photo’s of my first business trips at International Environmental Affairs, it was a musical time back then. Pictured: Budapest, Prague, Katowice (1992). #interreg #vrom #rvo

Building on my previous post, I want to share the personal journey that I went through during my international assignment in Cape Town 10 years ago. Towards the end of my assignment, I received news about a family emergency. I had to return home urgently on the last day to be with my children, allowing my wife to travel back to her family. This unforeseen incident reminded me of the critical role family plays in our development, even within our careers. It was during this time of emotional turbulence that I truly realized: • The strength family provides, enabling us to excel in our professional duties. • The importance of being a support system for loved ones, balancing professional ambitions with personal responsibilities. • How resilience isn’t just built in boardrooms or through demanding projects, but in the quiet strength drawn from family during challenging times. Such experiences underscore the symbiotic relationship between our personal and professional lives. They teach us invaluable lessons in empathy, resilience, and the true meaning of success. Reflecting on my journey today, I acknowledge how the support and grounding of my family, and my wife specifically, have been instrumental in shaping the leader I am. Remember, success isn't just the title we hold or the projects we conquer, but also the strong support system we nurture and rely upon. Our families play an irreplaceable role in our growth, offering strength during adversity and joy in achievements. #CareerGrowth #FamilySupport #PersonalDevelopment #ProfessionalGrowth

Eco-village living and construction, global transformation and volunteer work aren't for everyone. For those who do want these things though, here is an option. Could a global cooperative of eco-villages help write the next positive chapter in the ever evolving human story? We think it can.

It's great to see action being taken to target building green skills and filling employment gaps. 👏🏽👏🏽 A group of social landlords in the North East have launched a skills scheme called Green Start to train residents for career-starter roles in the green and low-carbon sector. The Green Start programme came about as a result of funding from the North East Combined Authority to provide subsidised placements in career-starter roles.
