What is ableism? The belief that people with disabilities are inferior to those without disabilities – and that being nondisabled is the standard of "normal living". These beliefs have real world consequences: discrimination, social stigma, and marginalization. We all need to take step to challenge ableism in our communities, workplaces, and within ourselves, so that full inclusion becomes the norm – and not the exception. In honor of Disability Pride Month, here are five ways that you can challenge ableism and be a better ally to the disability community: https://bit.ly/3RVXwnk #LifeworksMN #DisabilityPride #DisabilityPrideMonth

Today is World Disability Day. Wherever I travel 🧳, I always make a point of looking around for certain things because they reflect how different cultures treat disabled people. - If there are disabled people around in public place. For any country, there is a certain % of disabled people, if you don't see them in public place. Ask the question where are they and why? - If there are disabled access ♿ for disabled people in public place, like station, airport or theatre 🎭. If there are not, ask the question why not? - On the television 📺 program, are there subtitles or sign language accompanying the sound. If there are not, why not? - What other questions do you have? and why? Several organisations highlight the preconditions necessary for disability inclusion. You can't just do inclusion successfully; essential building blocks need to be in place. These building blocks span policies, services, and other types of interventions. So join me as I unpack the preconditions as articulated by UNPRPD, OCHCR, CBM, and the Pacific Disability Forum. Today marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a special occasion to reflect on the strength and resilience of differently abled individuals. I proudly identify as a person with a disability. It’s important to emphasize that I don’t see myself as disabled; instead, I consider myself differently abled. Today, I invite everyone to recognize that we are just like you human beings with unique experiences and capabilities. Our intention is not to label ourselves or fit into a certain box. We hope to inspire a shift in perspective, highlighting that disability or capability often depends on how we think and approach these differences. Let’s embrace inclusivity and celebrate our shared humanity. #AbilityNotDisability #InclusionIsKey #DiversityInclusion #CelebratingAbilities
