30,000 Cr Vandebharat train sets order was canceled recently due to cost reasons. I have posted ideas to improve Vandebharat's cost and also an alternate solution which is less than half price in principle. For example, a small loco can be made using the existing loco (capable of 200km/hr) or re-designing it to make it even better. Each small loco is capable of pulling 10-12 LHB coaches (modified to have Vandebharat coaches-like features). Half the power can be shut down in case only 5-6 coaches are pulled to increase efficiency. One loco in the front and one at the end (push-pull etc) with 20-24 coaches with 200 km/hr. LHB coaches have very high safety standards and cost at most 2 Cr. 24 of them will cost 48 Cr and the two locos would cost at most 15 Cr. Total cost will be still less than 70 including extended warranty maintenance etc. This means less than half the cost of the Vandebharat solution. Vandebharat costs could also be reduced by going for a more modular approach - do check my posts. I did send the ideas to the top Railway officials. It has been already a few years and hope for the best. All ideas posted have the potential to save lacs of Cr in the coming decades for those who adopt! This means also that double the number of projects can be done and at least double the number of people can be hired - more development, more employment !!!

📖 Tales of Trainer Nightmares: Part 2 📖 ☠️ We have another terrifying tale to share with you, courtesy of our Street Works trainer Peter. This story highlights the importance of location and avoidance when drilling into the ground. 🏞️ One brief story was when a friend of mine didn't CAT scan for underground electricity while working on an underground cable fault in South Moor, Stanley many years ago. He had to excavate on a farm track, cutting across a grass verge out in the sticks and he was a bit complacent about scanning because there wasn't going to be underground electric services there, right? South Moor's electricity is fed overhead. The ground turns out to be rock-hard under the grass, so he gets the road-breaker out and starts drilling down and loosening up. 🚶♂️ While going for it, a chap with his dog walks down and casually remarks, 'Watch what you're doing there, mate......I'm sure they brought the main feed for the wind-farm down that side of the road when they built it. Be careful!' 'Wind farm? Which wind farm?' 'That one there.....' and he pointed off into the distance to a massive number of windmills just obscured by the trees. 👷♂️ The drilling blade was missing the main wind-farm cable by millimetres from all angles! The closest of all shaves. He has since seen the consequences of striking one of these and it is catastrophic. Put it this way, if it had been hit, the result would've been pretty much vaporisation...there would've been nothing left of him bury! 👻 This is genuinely terrifying, I look like a ghost every time I think about that. I tell this story on every NRSWA course that I teach, especially the LA module. to serve as a real-life warning of how complacency can so easily kill in the workplace!
