As we approach the Khmer New Year, a time of joyous celebrations across Cambodia, it also marks a season of reflection, renewal, and setting forth bold ambitions for the future. In a nation where 74% of women actively participate in the workforce, our digital impact assessment platform, IIX Values™ has unveiled compelling insights from a pool of sustainable MSMEs. Our data reveals that 47% of these enterprises have increased income for their beneficiaries, 69% have enhanced skills and knowledge, and 53% have improved health outcomes. Take the inspiring story of Yean, a Cambodian entrepreneur whose life was transformed by the Women’s Livelihood Bond™ Series. Transitioning from a factory job due to unsafe conditions and low pay, Yean now owns a thriving mini-store. Her daily income has quintupled from $10 to $50, improving her quality of life. With her new financial stability, Yean is planning to invest in agricultural land, further diversifying her income sources and building resilience against future challenges, including the impacts of COVID-19. Yean's journey is a testament to the transformative power of targeted initiatives like the Women’s Livelihood Bond™ Series, which empower women and catalyze positive change. As the Khmer New Year dawns, we celebrate these successes and look forward to deepening our impact and fostering more stories like Yean’s in the coming years. Bina Maseno, #DDWithMaqC's 13th guest, dared to dream of a different future for her community. At just 22 years old, she ran for a Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in Embakasi Central, Kayole. Her journey through this political challenge not only taught her valuable lessons but also inspired her to establish Badili Africa, a organization dedicated to empowering women and transforming political engagement across Africa. Some key highlights 💡 Engaging youth and community support is crucial for transformative #politicalimpact, addressing local challenges like #unemployment and #insecurity by ensuring solutions are rooted in the needs of the people. 💡 Creative approaches like #beauty and #fashion make political education more accessible for young women. 💡 Organizations focused on #politicalengagement can bridge gaps in #governance and provide women with skills and confidence to lead and drive change. 💡 It is crucial to create #safespaces for women to fully participate in political and public life without fear of violence. These and other such insights will be featured in The Lives, Times, & Chapters of Luminaries Making Good Happen in Africa, a book featuring reflections from Leaders and Practitioners in the Development and Social Impact Ecosystem launching on the 26th of Sept 2024. On 11 December 2024, Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) received a visit from Assoc. Prof. Dr Mazlina Che Mustafa, Director of the National Child Development Research Centre (NCDRC), and Dr Norlaile Salleh Hudin of UPSI's Research Management and Innovation Centre, to enhance research collaborations between the two institutions. The visit followed the recent publication of KRI’s working papers on gender and care, examine the challenges faced by women in the labour market and the provision of care in Malaysia. KRI team benefitted significantly from the data shared by NCDRC's National Child Data Centre (NCDC) database, which has enriched the analysis and insights of the working papers. At EKAR, we believe in the power of storytelling to inspire change. It has been an honor to work on the communications and storytelling aspects of "Addiction, Not My Whole Story", a documentary premiering on 25th November in Nairobi, first of its kind in Africa. Through an intense and immersive journey for the past one year, we had the privilege of meeting and getting to know these incredible women, whose voices are often marginalized or misrepresented. Their stories, filled with pain, redemption, and strength, remind us that their struggles does not define them. It's been our mission to ensure that their truth is told with dignity and compassion. The heartwarming tales of resilience, mixed with heart-wrenching struggles, moved us deeply, and we are proud to have played a part in bringing their experiences to life. At Ekar, we specialize in capturing stories that matter, shaping narratives that resonate with authenticity and impact. We can’t wait for the world to hear these women's stories—stories of courage that deserve to be heard far and wide. # #Storytelling #WomenWhoUseDrugs #Documentary #AddictionNotMyWholeStory
