Hello LinkedIn 👋 We’re the Community Share Food Bank (CSFB), serving the Don Mills community in Toronto for 20 years. Community Share was founded in response to the growing issue of food insecurity in our community. The need was clear, and our initiative began with a simple yet profound mission: to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. 20 years of alleviating hunger later, our commitment remains as the need grows. CSFB usage has skyrocketed over the past few years, with a 130% increase since 2019. Change is long overdue. To mark our 20th year we will be joining calls for systemic changes that aim at the root causes of hunger: 🌱 Let’s talk the human right to food; food rescue initiatives; and urban gardening. 🤝 Let’s collaborate in advocating on employment for marginalized populations; updated, adequate social supports; and deeply affordable housing - among many other intersecting factors of poverty. 💬 We're eager to contribute to realizing human rights, including food, employment, housing, and health. Why a £3billion pound Sandwich shop gave me a Free Meal? Last Saturday, after volunteering to feed families and children in my community, I drove about 30 miles to another town, still wearing my volunteer shirt. As I walked into a sandwich shop 🥪🥪🥪, the person at the counter recognized me as part of the Gillingham S.T.R.E.E.T Angels, a group dedicated to feeding families and children in the community ensuring no child goes to bed hungry. When I went to pay, he insisted, "No, take it for free." He explained that Pret a Manger, the company he worked for, supports the homeless through food giveaways. Lesson Learned: Corporate Kindness: This experience showed me that even big companies like Pret a Manger are compassionate and actively support their communities. Building Loyalty: Acts of kindness, like providing free meals to volunteers, not only support those in need but also build loyalty and goodwill within the community. It's inspiring to see how businesses can make a positive impact beyond their products or services. What does your brand mean to you? How are you contributing to your community? Today is International Guide Dog Day - celebrating the important role Guide Dogs play in supporting people all around the world. We proudly partner with Guide Dogs Australia as our charity partner for Dialogue in the Dark programs and have seen first-hand the vital role Guide Dog services play in empowering individuals who are blind or have low vision to lead independent lives. The theme this year urges us all to learn the laws about Guide Dogs access – “Wherever you can go, Guide Dogs can go too”. Access issues consistently get in the way of Guide Dogs Handlers being able to get to where they need to go, with almost every second journey for Guide Dog Handlers resulting in a refusal from a taxi or rideshare, even though it’s the law to let Guide Dogs travel.
