"How do we protect the earth we stand on?" Healthy soil is critical to our ecosystem. But our soil is degrading. The Natural History Museum estimates that 1/3rd of the world's soil is either moderately or highly degraded. This has huge implications: 1. On nature 🌿 According to the Soil Association, 25% of biodiversity lives in soil and healthy living soils, with lots of different species, are critical to wildlife. 2. On our climate 🌍 Degradation has reduced the volume of carbon that soil can store and research discussed in a report by the European Union shows that soil is releasing large amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. 3. On our health 🏥 The chemical make-up of our food is changing as a result of degrading soil, according to research conducted by Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, reducing the amount of nutrients it provides. As with many climate issues, the technology exists to help stop this. Shining a light on a few I know of below 🔦 ➡ Earth Plus - helping companies remove carbon and clean soils using the power of nature ➡ Nunatak Biotech designs diverse plant-microorganism partnerships to restore biodiversity in degraded soils ➡ AgriTech Analytics Limited is using IoT and AI technology to work with smallholder famers in rural Africa to help boost crop yields and support food security We just need to invest in the R&D, scaling and uptake of this technology, and ensure our policies support and fuel this growth. #climatetech #agritech #saveoursoil #soildegredation #startups #climatesolutions #researchanddevelopment #policy #PR

Agrivoltaics, Climate Smart and revolutionary technology promoting dual use of land, reduced top soil erosion, facilitating ground water recharge and creation of suitable micro climate for crop production coupled with Shading from the Solar Panels with simultaneous Production of Energy. A beautiful example of co location of land that minimises land conflicts, becomes a Sustainable source of Income for the farmers and helps thrive communities and livelihoods around. As far as addressing Environmental Sustainability Agrivoltaics is the best technology that shows co- existence of Biodiversity around these Solar set ups on the land, with Development of Native Pollinator Habitats to Grazing of livestock thereby keeping the foliage low and facilitating Aquaculture too. “It’s essential to acknowledge the limitations of human behavior when it comes to addressing climate change. People often struggle to react to threats that seem distant. By aligning technology with existing agricultural practices, we can encourage adoption without requiring significant changes from farmers or corporations.” We recently spoke with Brandon Harris, Head of Strategy and Business Development at Eion Carbon, about the importance of accurate, data-driven carbon measurement and how Eion’s approach sets them apart in a market often clouded by uncertainty. Dive into the full interview and explore why Eion's methods matter for the future of sustainable agriculture and carbon removal. 🌱🌍 Read more: https://lnkd.in/g979fUDY Ryan Clinton Ben Walker Adam Wolf Anastasia Pavlovic Hans Andrew Simeonidis William O'Connor Chris Shrieves Eliza Wright Elizabeth Monahan Kristin Kane Leah VanLaan Maria Mooshammer Michael Sesko Shreya Nathan Soroush Rezvan, Ph.D. #RidgelineBacked #CarbonRemoval #Sustainability #AgTech #DataDriven #ClimateChange

Today, ORG's Sofia Saavedra Bruno is at the Vlaams Internationaal Klimaatactieprogramma to present the Regenerating Deserts project and lead an insightful session on the Water-Energy-Food Nexus. Regenerating Deserts aims to enhance climate resilience among farmers in Egypt's arid regions. As climate change intensifies water scarcity and extreme heat, this project focuses on empowering desert communities by merging renewable energy and climate-adaptive agriculture. Demonstration projects in Moghra and Nuweiba will showcase solutions like agri-PV systems, salt-tolerant crops, and innovative irrigation techniques, creating sustainable and scalable practices for dryland regeneration. Sofia’s session explored how the Water-Energy-Food Nexus can drive impactful solutions for similar regions across the world.
