This was such a great conversation to be a part of and so relevant to the future of Sacramento and the 2040 General Plan! Cities need to radically change and adapt to increasing populations, climate change, remote work and equitable housing before it's too late! #sacramento #architecture #urbanplanning #sustainabledesign
The Future of Cities was the title of our latest NORR ed session. Carol Ross Barney FAIA, the 2023 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal recipient, led the lecture that highlights tested and experimental methods of integrated design approaches. She explains how authentic places and spaces improve the quality of life in a city through expressions of our history, values and future vision. I was on the edge of my seat during the presentation of Maria Vassilakou on the strategy to create a livable and attractive city of Vienna. My main take-aways were: >Facilitating interaction and community-building as a design principle. So, not creating a building or a few houses and then have someone else think of the public space and again someone else creating facilities and someone else creating community. But integrate disciplines from this ONE starting point. That is right up my alley 😄. >With land and financial policies facilitate affordable and high quality housing. I love Vienna's policy on affordable housing and the result of having all incomes spread throughout the city. Diversity leads to resilience! >You need a longgggg breath. This result in Vienna took decades of relatively consistent strategy. And wooow, how that pays off. Being rated the most liveable city multiple times. Inspiring and envidiable!

🌎 Bridging Danish Architecture to Global Markets Today, we are featured in Licitationen, where our role as facilitators for Danish architects aiming to expand abroad is highlighted. We connect Danish architects with international developers, cities and organisations looking for innovative urban solutions. Right now, our efforts are especially focused on Japan and the US — two markets full of potential but also unique challenges. Whether it’s fostering local partnerships or navigating cultural landscapes, we support both established and emerging architectural companies and other organisations working within sustainable urbanisation in unlocking new opportunities. This is more than just exporting architecture; it’s about sharing Denmark’s collaborative approach to city development, which resonates strongly abroad. Delve into what our Directors for Global Networks & Partnerships, Jakob Norman-Hansen and Martine Reinhold Kildeby experience in their daily work (in Danish): https://lnkd.in/dFkeRbgB

This is a great example of how to apply the Digital Twin concept: (1) a holistic approach integrating context-specific social data and the natural environment, (2) introducing an agent-based model, and (3) enriching a participatory process. The model digitally replicates the current scenario by real-time monitoring of diverse parameters, whose interactions could be analysed for further potential. It provides a comprehensive digital platform that reflects the region's master plan and will be able to support decision-making on reducing major negative externalities in the city, such as pollution and social inequities. Just by reading the article, it looks great! I recently completed the course on Digital Twins for Smart Mobility at UPC School (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) in collaboration with Aimsun and promoted by EIT Urban Mobility. Thanks to the course I gained insights on a range of tools to cover the whole creation process, such as point-cloud scanning and data collection through IoT. Furthermore, it allowed me to understand the singularities of a Digital Twin compared to traditional simulation models, enabling me to critically evaluate this trend in transport and city planning. https://lnkd.in/dncFM29E
Digital Twin for Sarajevo: Professor Hubert Klumpner's chair designed the first AI-supported 4D model for Sarajevo. 🗺️ It takes spatial and temporal dimension into account in urban planning and was the basis for public hearings. “To map the complexity of the city, we need new methods, processes and technologies,” says Klumpner.
