How do we show our gratitude : to eachother? To our teams? To our colleagues? To our residents? Free coffee/ milk have all but disappeared from (ironically named!) coffee rooms. Soggy sprouts often don’t make it to the wards, OR or ED as the annual Christmas lunch. So how do you recognise their hard work with something meaningful yet affordable? Substantial, sustainable, affordable yet not tokenism? There must be a midway point between nothing and extravagance? Have you simply given up? Do you assume that they know’ what they mean to the team? Or do you depend on saccharine corporate comms? What about our colleagues from across the world for whom the (often usual) celebration with alcohol is unacceptable/ impossible? How do we include ‘everyone’ ? Is that even possible? What will you do this festive season to say thank you? How can you show your gratitude? What would make you feel valued?
Gratitude is so powerful - both giving and receiving it! (Bonus: pie recipe below) Don't forget to tell everyone who matters that you are grateful for them... and be specific about it! I'd like to challenge everyone struggling to focus and keep working today (when we're all already thinking about the pies to be baked and stuffing to be eaten!) to share messages of gratitude with your colleagues, friends, and family members.
