You’ve heard of LEED-certified buildings, right? Looks like full cities can now get certified! So interested to see how this goes because city-level change is bigger than building-level change. A city is a much more complicated system than an individual building’s system.
We are thrilled to share with you the 12 U.S. cities selected for our 2024 LEED for Cities national leadership cohort. We gather tomorrow for orientation and are looking forward to supporting them as they get organized around the certification process. City of Boca Raton City of Carrollton City of Coral Springs The City of El Paso Texas City of Gainesville City of Gary City of Jacksonville City of La Crosse City of New Orleans City of Overland Park City of Philadelphia City of St. Petersburg Thank you to Bank of America for partnering with the U.S. Green Building Council on this program. Together, we've supported more than 100 local governments representing more than 40 million people as they measure and manage their jurisdiction's sustainability performance. https://lnkd.in/gYVhUMF7 U.S. Green Building Council - U.S. Market Insights United States Conference of Mayors Urban Sustainability Directors Network (USDN) Climate Mayors C40 Cities National League of Cities Nicole Alderete-Ferrini Lara Isch Andrea Lemaitre Lindsey Roland Nieratka Whitney Blair Dan Zhu Ashantae Green ♻️ Cory Heiple Christopher Harris Greg Nichols Dan Jatres Sophia Winston Olivia Garcia Tammy Lee Alexandra Liftman Molly Green Peter Templeton Rhiannon Jacobsen

Mike Woolsey, Business Development Manager for Swegon North America, was honoured to moderate a roundtable discussion at the House of Sweden In Washington DC on October 28, 2024. The topic of the discussion was "Balancing Operational and Embodied Building Emissions Without Compromising Indoor Environmental Quality". Industry stakeholders shared their observations on the disparity between the goals of reaching net zero buildings, and the uptake of net zero building design requirements. As the discussion concluded, participants left with a renewed commitment to bridge this gap, emphasizing the critical need for collaboration and innovation in pursuit of sustainable building practices. #GreenTransitionSummit2024 #Sustainability #GreenBuilding #Leadership #ClimateAction #SustainableSolutions #Innovation #DrivingChange

Yesterday's UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) session on Systems Change for a More Sustainable Built Environment was great! It wrapped up a six-month journey involving industry partners in several fractal groups to discuss opportunities for Systems Change, addressing the purpose of the built environment, materiality, economy, power relations and leadership, etc. As an Observation Group Member, I see the strengths of these sessions, beautifully moderated by Russell Saunders and the team, in their ability to get participants to understand the different angles and viewpoints and interdisciplinarity of the built environment. They showed the interrelation of the different system(s) parts and high complexity but, at the same time, the power that each of us has in the process of change. Clearly, the more we talk together, the fewer discrepancies will exist in the different systems' response times, facilitating change. The role of communities, social factors and behaviour, and places' narratives also appear as critical parameters. It is also clear to me that passionate and compassionate leadership styles are essential in the complex process of change and adaptation and can be effective catalysts for system adaptations to sustainable futures. It is exciting to see how the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) will take this great initiative further! Thank you so much, UKGBC Team and participants! I am proud to have played a role in developing the #NewEuropeanBauhaus (#NEB) Guide alongside distinguished colleagues and under the JRC leadership. This guide includes a Handbook and a self-assessment tool aimed at advancing the NEB’s three core dimensions—sustainability, beauty, and inclusiveness—in the built environment across Europe and beyond. My contribution focused on the Sustainability dimension, particularly within the Economy area. Through effective collaboration and discussion, we developed this amazing outcome to provide tools and assessment methods that support sustainable economic practices, greening the public and private sectors and fostering the circular economy. https://lnkd.in/dd3EM92X #neb #sustainability #circulareconomy #builtenvironment #jrc #greenfinance

Everything* you need to know about building decarbonization jammed into a fun series of lightning quick roundtables. I'll be discussing "Why Private Developers Should Care about ESG." *OK, maybe not "everything," but let's say an awful lot. It will be a great event hosted by the Urban Land Institute Pittsburgh, with excellent roundtable leaders, and a lot of good conversation. #decarbonization #buildingdecarbonization #ESG https://lnkd.in/dkUUnRgg..
