The challenges facing cancer outcomes are deeply intertwined with societal inequities, requiring a multifaceted approach to ensure equitable cancer outcomes. From systemic racism and discrimination to economic barriers and access issues in healthcare, these factors significantly impact individuals' abilities to engage effectively with cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and survival strategies.
The path to equitable cancer care demands a concerted, intentional effort toward dismantling these barriers and adopting a framework of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This approach must be patient-centered, listening to and incorporating the experiences and needs of those affected by cancer, including patients, caregivers, and their communities, ensuring that every step towards fighting cancer is taken together, leaving no one behind.
