The longer those with prediabetes can delay developing T2D, the better their long-term health outcomes will be, new research indicates. A groundbreaking study from China, spanning over 30 years, reveals that delaying the onset of type 2 diabetes by just 4 years can significantly lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and death. This research followed 540 people with prediabetes and found astonishing results: 🔹Participants who avoided developing type 2 diabetes for at least four years had a 26% lower risk of all-cause mortality and a 40% lower risk of vascular problems. 🔹Those who stayed diabetes-free for six years saw a 44% reduction in cardiovascular death. 🔹The study highlights the critical impact of lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, in managing prediabetes and preventing its progression to type 2 diabetes. This pivotal research further underscores the importance of early intervention and consistent management of prediabetes to prevent serious health issues. At Liva Healthcare, we understand the challenges and triumphs of managing prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. Our personalised, digital health coaching is designed to support you every step of the way, making those critical lifestyle changes more achievable than ever. I recently had the opportunity to be part of an insightful online session where the speaker delved into the critical topic of diabetes and its comorbidities.I'm eager to apply the knowledge gained and continue spreading awareness about diabetes and its management Understanding Diabetes What is Diabetes? Insulin is a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels, ensuring they remain within a healthy range. Without proper insulin function and insufficient production, blood sugar levels can rise, leading to chronic health condition called as Diabetes (disorder). Comorbidities: Comorbidities due to diabetes are major concern nowadays, living with diabetes increases the risk of several other health issues, known as comorbidities. These include: 1. CVS issues : High blood sugar can damage blood vessels, leading to heart attacks or strokes. 2. Nephropathy: Over time, diabetes can impair kidney function, potentially leading to kidney failure. 3. Neuropathy: High sugar levels can damage nerves, causing pain, numbness, or even amputation. 4. Retinopathy: Diabetes can cause eye damage, increasing the risk of blindness. Preventive Measures: Managing diabetes is crucial to prevent these complications: 1- Regularly check your blood sugar levels to keep them within target ranges. 2- Focus on balanced meals with plenty of vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Limit sugar and refined carbs. 3-Physical activity helps your body use insulin more effectively and keeps blood sugar levels in check. 4- Take your insulin or other medications as directed by your healthcare provider, medicine adherence is necessary. 5- Regular visits to your doctor can help catch potential complications early. Taking these steps can help you live a healthy life, even with diabetes. #pharmacist #healthcareproviders #Diabetes #comorbidities #Preventivemeasure #linkedin

Many healthcare providers focus solely on controlling blood sugar levels, overlooking the functional medicine and holistic approaches that many diabetes patients seek. This gap in understanding creates a disconnect between doctors and patients, as patients increasingly desire a more integrated approach that addresses the root causes of their condition and supports overall well-being, not just symptom management. At SugarMD, we're bridging this gap by integrating modern and functional medicine. Check out this recent article featuring SugarMD in Forbes and how we are leading a holistic health movement ➡️

Live from the 60th EASD Congress in Madrid! Lots of great science displayed already at today’s industry sessions - of which one highlighted the important hypoglycemia issue. Managing hypoglycemia should be a key consideration in diabetes care, especially for those on insulin. As the annual Congress of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes e.V. (EASD) kicked off today, Alexandria Ratzki-LeeWing, PhD MSc and Stewart B. Harris, CM, MD, MPH, FCFP, FACPM highlighted the importance of improving hypoglycemia management and addressing the high burden of hypoglycemia on individuals with diabetes. Hypoglycemia disproportionately affects certain subpopulations, and older adults are particularly vulnerable to severe consequences like falls or fractures. Fortunately, second-generation basal insulins offer a potent strategy to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia—making them a valuable tool in managing diabetes. As we move forward, it's crucial to focus on strategies that improve the quality of life and minimize risk for older individuals living with diabetes. Let’s dive into the world of insulin resistance and reveal its effects on health conditions. It quite commonly influences several health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, PCOS, cardiovascular health, and even how our thyroid functions. Understanding these connections is vital for overall health management. 🌿 We have listed several health conditions and their relationship to insulin resistance: 1. Diabetes: Insulin resistance is a precursor to type 2 diabetes. When cells become resistant to insulin, glucose builds up in the bloodstream, leading to high blood sugar levels. 🍎💉 2. PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome): Insulin resistance is common in women with PCOS. Elevated insulin levels stimulate the ovaries to produce excess androgens, disrupting hormone balance and contributing to symptoms like irregular periods, ovarian cysts, and infertility. 🧬 3. Thyroid Health Conditions: insulin resistance can impact thyroid function, especially in autoimmune thyroid disorders like Hashimoto's disease and Graves' disease. It contributes to inflammation and can disrupt hormone production, worsening symptoms such as fatigue, weight changes, and metabolic issues in these conditions. 😢 4. Cardiovascular Disease: Insulin resistance is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular problems. It promotes inflammation, raises blood pressure, and contributes to the buildup of plaque in arteries, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. 🏥🩺 Understanding these connections empowers us to manage insulin sensitivity effectively, improving overall health outcomes. 💡 #InsulinResistance #HealthConnections #Type2Diabetes #PCOS #CardiovascularDisease #ThyroidHealth #TheLucyRoseClinic #Australia #Thyroid #Naturopathy #ThyroidNaturopath #HormoneNaturopath #HormoneSpecalist #ThyroidSpecialist #HolisticHealth #FunctionalMedicine

What’s New in Diabetes Research? It’s true still that diabetes is one of the most common chronic illnesses in the United States. Diabetes occurs when the insulin created in your pancreas is either not being made or is not being used properly by your body. Insulin helps your body make glucose (sugar) which gives your cells and body energy. There are Type 1 and Type 2 forms of diabetes. Type 1 is an autoimmune disease where your body does not make insulin. Type 2 is when your body has insulin resistance. Private Home Health Care understands that this can be a difficult illness to live with and researchers are always looking for explanations on why it occurs and how to best manage treatments. Research is going on all the time and there are some interesting discoveries with possible great outcomes. One doctor has discovered a potential explanation as to why Type 1 diabetes causes an attack on insulin-producing beta-cells. This could lead to prevention or a new treatment. Another doctor is looking at childhood obesity which leads to Type 2 diabetes. Checking brain waves and how that affects how much children eat can help. A patent for a novel molecule to monitor glucose levels is another innovation. Research into this molecule has the potential to benefit people living with the disease. New studies that are in real-life situation settings rather than clinical settings are helping to spur research on early interventions that can help with best outcomes. Additionally, there is much more research happening and with time the hope is that diabetes can be prevented and better managed. Keep the faith. #diabetes #privatehomehealthcare Photo by Nataliya Vaitkevich

How many people know their current health status? Consider the following numbers: - Over 40% of US adults who have hypertension are unaware of it. - Around 48% of all US adults have high blood pressure, meaning around 20% of adults are unaware they have a major cardiovascular risk factor. - Only 7-12% of US adults are considered metabolically healthy (DOI: 10.1089/met.2018.0105 and https://lnkd.in/gKvkZcbA) Here are the cutoffs to be metabolically healthy without taking any medication to help (blood pressure is included): - waist circumference: <102/88 cm for men/women - fasting glucose: <100 mg/dL and hemoglobin A1c <5.7% - blood pressure: systolic <120 and diastolic <80 mmHg - triglycerides: <150 mg/dL - high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL or "good cholesterol): ≥40/50 mg/dL for men/women Where do patients stack up? Are they area of their numbers? Regular checkups and assessments of these data points are vital for maintaining metabolic and cardiovascular health.
