Foldable smartphones remain a hot topic as vendors strive to re-spark the attraction of the mobile market. According to Canalys research, 40.5 million foldable smartphones have shipped worldwide from Q1 2019 to Q3 2023, with 11 different vendors introducing 58 models. Currently, the segment is entering a new era. With intense competition, foldable devices alone no longer serve as innovative stand-out differentiators, and the 'wow-factor' is gradually diminishing, limiting its halo effect impact. The next years will be defined by new use-cases (I expect on-device AI to be key), prices gradually moving down and increased focus on building reliability and trust. On the last point: A significant share of foldable experience problems within their first two years, often needing repair or replacements. This doesn't align with what consumers have started to expect from smartphones and the main question I have: How will it impact retention of current foldable users? https://lnkd.in/ecQ7G9JR
