Despite Low Seasonality, Smartphone Was Still A Big Part Of TSMC Business In Q2 2024 TSMC has recently released its earnings for Q2 2024 and "Smartphone" platform accounted for around 33% of the total TSMC's revenue in Q2 2024. This means around $1 in every $3 dollar revenue of TSMC still comes from smartphone platform. Q2 is usually a low seasonality quarter for smartphone driven by a smaller number of launches and more planning for H2 sales amidst festive seasons in emerging and developed markets. Despite this, Smartphone platform managed to be second highest contributor in revenue after HPC platform which accounted for 52% of the total revenue, crossing 50% mark for the first time ever. On a sequential comparison, smartphone platform revenue decline 1% QoQ but on an annual comparison, it grew around 33% YoY in Q2 2024 driven by flagship and AI enabled smartphones. We expect the contribution of smartphone platform to grow in second half of 2024 driven by more smartphone launches and sales amidst festive season.

Japan’s Used Smartphone Market Booms - https://lnkd.in/gV5rkY8r TOKYO, Oct 07 (News On Japan) - The used smartphone market in Japan is booming, particularly following the release of Apple's latest iPhone model. Despite the new iPhone 16 hitting the market last month, more consumers are opting for pre-owned devices due to their significantly lower prices. https://lnkd.in/gCymHykc For instance, a used iPhone 13 with 512 GB of storage can be purchased for around 93,280 yen, offering a substantial price difference compared to new models sold by Apple. This affordability is attracting both local and international buyers, especially from countries like Turkey and South Korea, where new smartphones are much more expensive. The popularity of used smartphones is expected to continue growing, with sales reaching over 2.72 million units for the fifth consecutive year and projections showing an increase of 15.5% to 3.15 million units this year. The appeal of used smartphones isn't just about the cost; some consumers prefer older models for their unique camera qualities or aesthetics. Behind this market's growth is a network of repair shops that meticulously restore pre-owned phones, enhancing their value. Source: ANN Source
