With the election now called, we know that local communities are best placed to transform lives and create a fairer society. We're urging all parties to make five big reforms: 1️⃣ Introduce a Community Power Act to help local people shape public services, control local investment, and take control of local buildings and spaces. 2️⃣ Create a National Community Ownership Strategy that boosts community ownership and capacity from energy to housing to health. 3️⃣ Put communities in charge of local economic development, giving residents more control over local regeneration spending and devolving employment and skills support to the hyper-local level. 4️⃣ Make collaboration – not competition - the guiding principle of public services. Reform commissioning and shift NHS budgets to community led prevention. 5️⃣ Champion community led housing and neighbourhood planning - giving communities a tangible stake in their neighbourhoods. We believe the blueprint for a better future already exists – and it's right here in communities up and down the country. Great to see well-articulated policies about community and place 👏
Like the LocalityManifesto. Kev and I have seen the SYMCA programme and I’m going to contact Paul Johnson one of their policy team to see what their delivery model is.

7moWe're working with our local authority, combined authority and ICS to make some of this happen. There are some good people that understand the benefits of the powershift - which ultimately is about more effective bang for the public buck and getting to the root of local issues. At times it can be a bit 2 steps forward and 3 steps back. 2 of the biggest challenges are silo working and still all these years on, understanding of social value/ social return on investment. Admittedly, some of us need to improve how we highlight impact, but a lot of smaller orgs are busy delivering and don't have the resources. We'll done to the sector for persevering and to anybody involved with policy / decision making who is being an agent for positive change.
