Target ALS grant recipient Javier Oroz, PhD, is working to improve ALS diagnosis, which remains notoriously difficult. Dr. Oroz’s lab is studying a protein, TDP-43, which is linked to 97% of ALS cases. The goal of the project is to identify TDP-43 in patient samples to reliably diagnose #ALS and track disease progression. This critical work could be the key to earlier diagnosis and more effective ALS clinical trials. 💡 #ALSResearch #DiagnosingALS #ALS #EveryoneLives #ALSClinicalTrials

Pleased to share recent work from our research group. Endothelial to mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is an active process in smokers and patients with early COPD, contributing to arterial remodelling and lung fibrosis in general. Endothelial cells in COPD are more than bystanders and should not be overlooked. This is the first study showing the acquisition of mesenchymal traits by pulmonary endothelial cells from smokers, patients with small airway disease and early COPD through EndMT. Well done Prem Bhattarai and all involved Wenying Lu, Mathew Suji Eapen, Affan Shahzad, Surajit Dey, Archana Gaikwad, Clifford Craig Foundation https://bit.ly/49TtZBZ
