One week left to enter the Kevin De Silva Memorial Competition. There are 3 topics which you can base your blog/opinion piece on: · Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry · The top three priorities for the new Lord Chancellor, The Right Hon. Shabana Mahmood MP; and · Goals for UN Sustainable Development Group Imagine if you win? Your article is printed by Nottinghamshire Law Society has the potential to go wider. 800 words could be life changing for a young lawyer. Get involved - stand apart from your peers. (Link to the competition is in my original post). #nottingham #lawcompetitions #juniorlawyers #lawstudents #paralegals #traineesolicitors #pupilbarristers #solicitorapprentices #cilex #students #lawlecturers #trainingsupervisors #pupilmasters
This is my brother Kevin. He was very studious, but this photo was actually taken upon his request for a photo reading a book, as we messed about waiting for a delayed flight. I remember that the hours passed in no time at all as we did lots of silly things like read as characters from a book out loud to unimpressed voyagers in Madrid airport. I miss him very much but one thing I was able to do after his unexpected death was to pay tribute to his academic ability, his brilliance as a Junior Lawyer and to create opportunities for anyone from any background. So in 2012, was born Nottinghamshire Law Society’s Kevin De Silva Memorial Competition. If you are a Junior Lawyer in Nottingham then please think about entering, it’s a way to get noticed by senior lawyers in Nottingham and externally. If you supervise Junior Lawyers, then encourage them to practise their writing skills, which are so important in this digital age. #nottingham #juniorlawyers #lawcompetitions #trainees #pupils #lawstudents #paralegals #cilex Here is a link to this year’s competition: https://lnkd.in/eFN2vRuX

Very interesting man. Lectured me (us) and facilitated our understanding of commercial contract law. Quote of the semester: “Signatures are not magical. You can accept an offer by twirling in a tutu on the top of a mountain if that is how you mutually agreed to come to an agreement” not verbatim I’m paraphrasing. Everyone loves equitable estoppel (it’s like tay tay or liv liv or Kathy, some things are popular and seen as desirable). My favorite thing about commercial contract law is that you can drift into a contract. Just like you do something a few times a promise and some consideration and legally you are contracted (my hotel is trying to evict me). For those who are unsure a contract is a binding agreement.

Our Governing Member in Belgium, BKV - CBD, has always stood firm in defending fair competition while ensuring high-quality service. Recently, they took decisive action regarding the unclear procurement procedure for relocating Verviers' city library. A company, not legally registered as a removal firm, won the tender despite lacking the necessary transport license or registered staff. BKV - CBD raised a complaint with the city council and questioned how this firm was selected, especially when 170,000 books had to be moved under such conditions. Strikingly, the city government bypassed its own rules. BKV - CBD’s director, Koenraad Vangoidsenhoven, informed us: "Although legally they are given 15 days to file a suspension petition, video footage shows that library staff were already packing books in mid-September. However, the tender stated that the removal firm had to take care of packing the boxes. How the city handled the procedure raises strong questions. So our members can no longer robustly dispute the decision. More to the point, the library has already reopened as of 17 October." This undermines fair competition and professionalism in the sector. BKV has officially filed a complaint against Verviers city council and the firm Fracht Belgium Air, urging the adoption of fair practices and supporting companies that comply with legal regulations. We will continue to follow this case closely, as unfair competition is a common concern for many of our members. #MovingCommunity #MovinginBelgium #FairCompetition

It’s finally done. 🎙️ Our most ambitious project at Tales of The Tribunal has just gone live today - it is an audio narration of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot case file. Nearly 3 hours in length, it was a massive undertaking that we are proud to share with our audience and the Vis community as a whole. Here were some of the reasons we did this: 🌎 As an international competition conducted in English, narrating the materials may prove helpful for non-native English speakers as they prepare for their oral submissions; 🎧 Some people learn and digest information more easily by listening; 🏫 To assist coaches, arbitrators, and students in reviewing the materials when they may not have their bundle in front of them; 🏆 Just to see if we could pull off such a high quality production. We are excited to see how it’s used. Final thoughts— In addition to this version avaible by #podcast a #Youtube version will be available in the coming days. We’ll share it once it’s ready. If you would like to discuss having your: 📑 Legal Article ⚖️ Arbitral Rules or 💼 Any other documents professionally narrated Please reach out to us at TalesOfTheTribunal@Gmail.com https://lnkd.in/es_WQH-4 Willem C.
