#Indigenous Peoples' voices must be included in resource development for health education and staff training resources for direct care clinicians and #healthleadership roles. The dominance of western health knowledge and beliefs continues to overshadow Indigenous wellness perspectives and ways of being, knowing and doing, which leads to barriers to accessing and providing healthcare services that are #highquality, safe and relevant, write Lisa Bourque Bearskin, Liquaa Wazni, Melnyk Rose, Nikki Rose Hunter-Porter et al in "Moving Beyond Ignorance and Epistemic Violence: Indigenous Health Nurses’ Response to Systems Transformation". https://lnkd.in/gVw44UTS

As Native American Heritage Month concludes, we take this time to reflect on the state of health care within Indigenous communities. 💡 While there have been positive strides in expanding mental health services and funding critical infrastructure, as exemplified by leaders like Dr. Mary Smith of the Cherokee Nation (Alaska Native Health Board, 2016), significant challenges persist. These include health disparities, underfunding of the Indian Health Service, limited health care access in rural and remote areas, and high rates of uninsured individuals. Organizations like National Medical Fellowships are working toward solutions by expanding the health care workforce and empowering Native American health professionals to deliver culturally competent care in the very same communities that need it the most. 📖 From ‘evidence-based’ towards ‘value-based’ #PublicHealth: measuring what matters most “An increasingly recognized approach to strengthening the case for shifting spend and advocating for investing in public health is by expanding traditional ‘value for money’ evaluations and economic methods by including and measuring wider #social, #economic and #environmental outcomes and impacts. Applying a social or public value approach which focuses on what matters to all relevant stakeholders (#patients, #families, #serviceproviders, #funders, etc.) demonstrates the holistic value of public health, which is essential to be considered in decision-making and budget prioritization and allocation, especially in the context of scarce resources, growing burden of disease and care pressures, and achieving more sustainable systems for health and wellbeing.” Mariana Dyakova, Andrew Cotter-Roberts, Kathryn Ashton of Public Health Wales https://lnkd.in/eyiRiwGp EUPHA - European Public Health Association Charlotte Marchandise EuroHealthNet Dorota Sienkiewicz European Public Health Alliance (EPHA) UK Faculty of Public Health

Want sustainable ways to save health care dollars? We have talked about this for long enough. Taking action and implementing a HiAP approach would create the upstream approaches to reduce the downstream issues and spending. It’s time.
Have you ever wanted to have a better grasp on what Health in All Policies ACTUALLY is? Health in All Policies (HiAP) is an approach to policymaking that takes health implications and considerations into account and integrates them into policymaking across sectors to improve health and wellbeing. Though multisectoral approaches like HiAP can be immensely beneficial and effective, they can be difficult to understand at first glance, which is why CHiAPRT has developed a short fact sheet to help make understanding Health in All Policies easier and more accessible. Health in All Policies can be complicated to understand at first, but it doesn’t have to be. Check out CHiAPRT’s Health in All Policies fact sheet now. SAHMRI, Adelaide School of Public Health
