Hello Everyone, Please save the date! Please register for this event, and please confirm if you can attend. INDIANAPOLIS, IN — On September 12 at 5 PM, the Fay Biccard Glick Neighborhood Center will host a Workforce Opportunity Fair, a key event to connect local community members with training for in-demand jobs. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Fay Biccard Glick Neighborhood Center, The Darden Group, and The Latina Welding Guild, organizations dedicated to empowering individuals with the skills needed for high-demand careers. The fair will feature opportunities in welding, HVAC training, construction classes, and more, aiming to equip attendees with the tools to secure stable and well-paying jobs. As an added incentive, eligible students who attend the event will have the chance to receive either a $50 gas card or a $30 bus card to assist with transportation costs. This gesture underscores the organizers' commitment to removing barriers and ensuring that everyone has the chance to benefit from these training programs. We understand the value of these skills in today's job market and how crucial they are for the economic well-being of our community. This fair is not just about job training—it's about creating opportunities and building a stronger community. The Workforce Opportunity Fair is open to all community members looking to enhance their skills and explore new career paths. October 22nd was the People of Color Career Fair, The Premier Networking and Hiring Experience for Professionals of Color in the Twin Cities! “As we recap the 2024 People of Color Career Fair, I’m reminded how crucial representation is in every step of the job search and hiring process. At LatinoLEAD, we are proud to partner in creating spaces where Latine professionals see themselves reflected and valued. Representation doesn’t just inspire; it opens doors to equitable opportunities, ensuring that our community’s talent, voices, and contributions are fully recognized. Together, we’re strengthening the workforce and advancing a vision where everyone belongs and thrives.” – Karen Velez Barron, LatinoLEAD COO Our CEO, Irma Márquez Trapero, and Sharon Smith-Akinsanya, CEO of the Rae Mackenzie Group, Inc. held a fireside chat where they shared the importance of Diversity across the board. Diversity is not only about entry-level representation; it's about ensuring that professionals of color have access to all levels of an organization, including senior leadership and decision-making roles. More partnerships like LatinoLEAD and the People of Color Career Fair ensure that diversity is institutionalized throughout organizations, creating a pipeline for advancement. This results in more professionals of color serving as managers, directors, executives, and board members, which has a cascading effect on organizational culture, decision-making, and strategy. #WeAreLatinoLEAD #Somos LatinoLEAD #PeopleOfColorCareerFair #MinneapolisEvent #Networking #WorkforceDevelopment #Diversity #Inclusion

Skills for Rhode Island's Future is committed to supporting jobseekers from all walks of life in their search for meaningful employment. We do our best work when we partner with others, whether we collaborate with other community organizations or across teams within our own! Last Thursday, May 2nd, our Client Services, Talent Acquisition, Career Services, RI Small Business HUB, and workABILITY teams participated in a multi-employer Veteran's Job Fair at Community College of Rhode Island's Knight Campus in Warwick, hosted by The Providence VA VBA Regional Office, Veteran Readiness & Employment (VRE) Division, CCRI Student Veterans, and the Rhode Island Department of Labor & Training. The event connected veterans and others with career opportunities and resources, and our SkillsRI teams personally met with over 30 jobseekers and almost every employer in attendance! Events like these are essential for informing and supporting those who may have barriers to employment, like Rhode Island's veteran population, and you never know where or when any given team member may lend specialized support or connect for an opportunity for work outside of their typical purview. Bill Harold, Supported Employment Coordinator for workABILITY, spotted and caught up with DATTCO, INC, a transportation company that attended the event looking to recruit new hires. DATTCO recently partnered with and successfully hired a workABILITY candidate for a role as a School Bus Monitor/Aide, so Bill took the opportunity to explore ways to collaborate further by introducing DATTCO's hiring team to members of SkillsRI's Client Services team for additional sourcing and roles. #SkillsRI and #workABILITY thank all of our community partners, employer partners, and the sponsors of this event for their support in providing resources to the veteran community and so many others! It often takes only one person or one effort to make a difference in the lives of others, so together, we should expect the impact of our work will be far greater! If you're an employer seeking talent, contact the workABILITY team to join our mission of providing equal opportunities for all!
