5 Minute Warm-Up exercises to kickstart Art Class Hey Art Teachers! These 5-minute warm-ups have transformed my art classes from sleepy to super-charged. 1.The Squiggle Challenge 〰️ -Draw one random squiggle -60 seconds to turn it into something 2.Mirror Dance Drawing ✨ -Play upbeat music -Students draw with both hands at once 3.Back-to-Back Artists 🎯 -Partner up students -One describes an object -Other draws without looking it 4.One-Line Warriors ✏️ -No lifting pencil from paper (Topics: pets, food, monsters) -30 seconds per drawing 5.Emotion Scribbles 🌈 -Call out different emotions (Happy , anxious, sad, cry, etc) -Kids scribble how they feel -Use different colors and fill ⭐️ Quick Tips: Keep it fast and fun ,celebrate weird results. 🔥 Bonus Tip: Take photos of the best warm-ups - kids love seeing their progress over time! Art is woven into the fabric of our culture. The more we look at it, the more we see how in almost every festival, painting our floors and walls with patterns is a tradition. All the important landmarks in our lives are marked by art- from our birth, to our weddings- all the way until we rest. But why is it that art is only reserved for those who are good at it? The answer to this is simple. We've evolved to only admire perfection and grandeur. The idea of art to decorate our homes was to invite in joy, to add a pop of color to our lives- although it has grown out to be quite scrutinized now where a lot of us are scared to even lift a paintbrush up because we "cannot be good at it". Why is it that our expressions have been limited to only those who are artistic "elites"? People who have worked hard to become professionals- the ones who still continue it with their spirits high and twinkling eyes know their biggest enemy- the need to be perfect, and their critical inner voice telling them their art isn't good enough. This is exactly why I believe therapeutic arts is important. It's not just a matter of relaxing and having fun, but in its essence, it is also a form of protest to the idea of boxing and limiting expression. Breaking through these chains leads to an infinite amount of possibilities, our expression becomes boundless.
