Sure the intracellular space is crowded. Sure key biomolecules diffuse within the cells. But what mechanisms relate cell structures and intracellular passive transport? This question has driven Olivier Destrian for the past few years, and he will explain all about it during his PhD defense next week! (Spoiler alert: there will be cool live-cell fluroresence images, and porous media ...)
#DefenseDay #LabEM2C I'm pleased to invite you to Olivier Destrian's PhD thesis defence on Friday, October 4 at 2 pm. His thesis is entitled: "Multi-scale study of passive intracellular transport of macromolecules using porous medium modelling and fluorescence experiments on living cells". It was supervised by Benoît Goyeau and Morgan Chabanon and carried out in collaboration with René-Marc Mège and Benoît Ladoux (Institut Jacques Monod, Université Paris Cité). The presentation will occur in the Théâtre Rousseau, Bouygues building, CentraleSupélec. A live webcast will also be available via the link in the comments. 🎓 Are you a student or PhD candidate of the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg or part of the EELISA European University program at the FAU and interested in new research approaches to science and technology? ▶ Then, please feel free to participate in our upcoming seminars at the Chair of Science, Technology and Gender Studies - Friedrich Alexander Universität Erlangen Nürnberg. We cordially invite students and researchers from all disciplines of the social sciences, engineering and natural sciences, as we focus in particular on the interdisciplinary setting to our teaching. We are continuing our courses on innovative and interdisciplinary reflections on science and technology this semester with two new thematic subjects: 🌍 In “Geographies of Science” we will explore different locations and spaces where science has been carried out, and also study how geographies have affected scientific results and practices. The seminar will furnish an overview of the history of science with an emphasis on geographies and spatiality, which also holds significance for other disciplines, such as physics, medicine, geography, sociology, and history. 💻 More information and registration (FAU ID required) here: https://lnkd.in/eK85gSR7 🔬 In the block seminar ”The History of Nuclear Medicine”, we focus on the interconnected aspects of medicine, science and technology. This course adopts an innovative examination form whereby students compose 'biographies' of various nuclear medicine artifacts, linking them to the broader historical context of the discipline throughout the 20th century. Creative formats, individual research commitment and scientific rigor do not have to be considered contradictory. 💻 More information and registration (FAU ID required) here: https://lnkd.in/eWxD67HN ⁉ If you need any clarification, please don’t hesitate to send us a message to ralf.mitschke@fau.de. #FAU #Wintersemester #Wissenschaft #Forschung #Soziologie #Physik #Physics #STEM #MINT #Gender #History #Geschichte #EELISA

🎓Delighted to share that I have defended my Ph.D. at Institut d'Optique Graduate School (#IOGS) on December 15, 2023. 🚀 This industrial thesis, conducted under the supervision of Marino Marsi and the insightful co-supervision of Marc Hanna and michele natile, marks a collaborative effort between Laboratoire Charles Fabry (LCF), Laboratoire de Physiques des Solides (#LPS), and Amplitude Laser within the #CIFRE framework. My research journey focused on the development of a #VUV source for TR-ARPES applications, resulted in an innovative #ultrafast, high-photon-flux, high-repetition-rate 114 nm source💡. Throughout this experience, we discovered the pivotal role of ionization in perturbative third harmonic generation in gases.🔍 It has been an absolute honor to spend these years within the #Laser Group, collaborating with experts whose contributions were integral to the success of this project. This achievement highlights the significant impact of collaborative efforts between academia and industry, making this experience truly invaluable. 📚⚙️ 🎓Université Paris-Saclay 🎓Université Paris-Sud 🎓Sorbonne Université #photonics #femtosecond #LCF #IOGS #LPS #Amplitude #Spectroscopy

🎉 Today, we salute Marie Curie - an iconic scientist who deserves to be celebrated. Curiosity, courage and perseverance - three words that could sum up Curie's life and the legacy she has carried forward in research and development. She is the woman behind the discoveries of the elements radium and polonium, which laid the foundations for the study of radioactivity - groundbreaking research that has had a major impact on science today. 🔬 She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. 🔬 Her work has been instrumental in the development of cancer treatments and X-ray technology. 🔬 She was a pioneer, paving the way for women in science and research by challenging the gender norms of the time. We need more women in science and technology. And more products need to be developed and designed specifically for women. Artificial hearts are one such product, with Realheart striving to develop its total artificial heart to fit in smaller patients and women. #WomenInScience #TotalArtificialHeart #LifeScience #TheNobelPrize #Medtech #HeartFailure
Happy birthday to Marie Skłodowska Curie, who was born on this day in 1867. Marie Curie was the first person to be awarded the Nobel Prize twice, and is still the only individual to receive the prize in two different science categories. New publication from the Neutrino group. This time we explore possible observables to improve our understanding of the neutrino energy reconstruction in neutrino oscillation experiments. This is the first time we show that we can measure the super scaling variable psi' that was introduced for electron-nucleus scattering. This variable contains information about the elements that alter the neutrino energy reconstruction. This is one step forward in the new generation of high precision neutrino oscillation experiments. This will be one of the main topics of D.Douqa's PhD Thesis. With the support of Faculty of Science | University of Geneva and Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF https://lnkd.in/eXFZnRqA
