"Fostering and Adoption Social Work" an insight ... A career in social work can be incredibly demanding, but for many people, it’s the most rewarding work they’ll ever do Put simply, social workers in adoption and fostering assess families and individuals to determine if they are suitable for fostering or adopting children in need. Placements can be short- or long-term, with permanent situations often required for children who cannot go home. Social workers build relationships with families, getting critical insight into how children may fit into their environments and supporting them throughout transitions. Day-to-day activities largely revolve around visiting families in their homes, investigating whether they’ll be suitable to look after children. As part of this, social workers interview prospective carers to determine everything from family history and skills and experience in caring for children to the home environment and whether it’s suitable for bringing up children. Visits can take place over a long period of time, with social workers undertaking statutory checks in between visits. Much of the work is spent visiting families, but you will also be spending time in the office writing reports and responding to general enquiries. Workers will manage several different cases at once.. Its a Friday and here i am focusing on adoption at work #ilovesocialwork #socialworker #childrenandfamilysocialworker #makingachange

So true the offer is so poor
💬 "There's not enough social workers, there's not enough foster placements and there's a huge care cliff in the UK where as soon as someone who is in foster care turns 18, they're kind of abandoned and left on their own." - Jessica-Rae, a #CareExperienced young person we work with spoke on ITV News on the debate ahead of the General Election 📺 Watch Jess from 7:35: https://lnkd.in/eRdK7mWg

Can you guess what this number is? It's the unprecedented number of written comments from those who took part in The Indpendent Foster Carer's Survey. You can read some of them in the report below, they don't make for easy reading but it's urgent that we listen to the frontline of fostering. In the report you will find a link to 50 responses under each question, the rest are available to some organisaions and government. Full report here: https://lnkd.in/eND6Km6b #fostercare #crisis

Providing love and guidance for youth is a worthwhile, rewarding endeavor. Consider becoming a Wheeler foster parent and help people like “Cheyanne,” 16, life warrior and future social worker. Cheyanne’s and other stories and photos on our website are not actual depictions of youth in foster care; however, they are meant to highlight the depth of the need.
