♦️STOP RELAYING ON UNIVERSITIES ❗️ What do I mean? Let me explain. I constantly witness fresh graduates being trapped into a bubble that states “Get good grades, and diploma, and you will get a good job”. You know what I think about this? Its complete bullshit (sorry can’t hold it back :) WAKE UP 🔝 The new generation needs to understand one simple thing. There are 100s if not 1000s of fresh graduates graduating from the same bachelor or specalization as YOU, what makes YOU special? Why would a company choose you as its next employee out of 1000s of other people, just because you have taken 3-4 academical courses does not change a thing, becuase everyone has done it! 👨🎓 👩🎓 Now let’s stop complaining and give me a moment to explain you how to handle it right. You as an individual must understand that life is hard, and taking an extra hard steps and sacrifices is the only way to pass through the gates that life will keep bringing at you. Now as a graduate you need pass one of the very first gates that life has brought, which is bypassing all other students and landing that job. “How would I do that!” You may ask, and the answer is simple, but the execution is hard. You need to outwork all ofher students out there, you need to put that extra step that all other students did not, and I promise you will land that job! 👨🏼💻👩🏽💻

This is what was *actually* important in college, looking back as a recent graduate. 1) Learning how to treat people. College is comPLETELY different than high school. You're going to discover all types of insecurities and unresolved emotions as you start dealing with other people as an independent person. I messed up a s*** ton of relationships with other people because I was immature. But it takes dealing with people to understand how to deal with them well. 2) Working hard for the sake of working hard. I finished all of my pre-med requirements before deciding to drop pre-med. As do a lot of students. But it wasn't a waste. Learning how to put the grind in is a skill transferable to literally anything you want to do next. Even making TikToks :D 3) Realizing how big the world is. When you meet people with crazy stories from every state and every country doing insane things, you start to realize how big the world really is. And you'll realize that you don't need to put so much pressure on yourself. You're just a small part of this world. But that also means you can try to be as big as you desire. College is a great place to do that. To all the rising college freshmen who I assume saw me on TikTok or Instagram and now found me on LinkedIn, I believe in you. Go live your best life :)

Fresh Graduate & Feeling a Little Lost? Welcome to the Club. So, here we are—fresh out of school and already questioning if we made the “right” career choice. We thought we’d have it all figured out by now, right? Turns out, adulting doesn’t come with a roadmap. 😅 After one year of working with “real adults”—those who’ve been in the field for 15+ years—I realized something: No one really has it all figured out. Everyone’s navigating their own path, learning as they go, just like us. Ahh, 2 years on LinkedIn, and this is my first post. Took me long enough! 🤣 But seriously, whatever you chose to pursue, whether it feels like a perfect fit or not, it’s your first lesson in adulthood. There’s no such thing as a “perfect” choice. Every experience, even the confusing or challenging ones, is teaching us something valuable. So, to my fellow fresh grads who feel a bit unsure—you’re not alone. The career path may not always be clear, but that’s part of the learning curve. Every step, every decision (even the wobbly ones), shapes where we’re headed next. It’s all progress. #Reflection_story Seven years down the line! Today I celebrate 7 years post graduation in teaching. A short inspirational story here! Must read for fresh graduates!🤗 On 17th May 2017, I completed my last paper in Kenyatta University, not sure or aware of what the world of hustle had in store for me. I wasn't sure of whatever I was doing, being a fresh graduate from college and also battling financial pressures after campus. One thing for sure kept me going, from the testimonies of colleagues I worked with as an untrained and later teacher trainee before undertaking my internship, I knew I was destined for greatness! The way colleagues believed in me, made me believe in myself more! As a fresh graduate, you need not to just fix yourself in a place for the sake of money, you have to do a background check to ensure that you don't compromise with professional growth at that early stage! I decided to volunteer in a big school with no income, yet I had many other options. I knew I was about to take a path less travelled! The journey to graduation month wasn't easy, thanks to colleagues for the unwavering support. 4/08/2017 was the day! From the same school I volunteered, I got a job. A two month volunteering was rewarded with a contractual job. Long story short, I ended up in a relatively big school. To fresh graduates: ✅ The dept of skills and experience is directly influenced by the status/level of the school or organisation, choose wisely! ✅ Believe in yourself even when no one seems to! ✅ Don't focus on making money, building skills and experiences should be your priority! ✅ Be open and have a positive attitude. ✅ Never allow anyone to destroy your self esteem. When I first came to the University of Cape Coast as a fresh student, my sole focus was to graduate with academic excellence, get good grades, and land a job right after school. Even during orientations, lecturers emphasized that academic excellence would help us secure jobs post-graduation. But as I navigated to my second year, I kept asking myself if academic excellence was all I needed to be successful in life. Sure, graduating with top grades would make my job search easier, but I sensed something important was missing. By the time I reached my third year on campus, it dawned on me that skillsets were the missing piece. Through reading books and attending programs, I discovered that 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙨 are what the industry values most. It’s not just about the grade you get, but what you can do with that grade. Don’t get me wrong, academic excellence is important as it provides foundational knowledge and signals credibility and expertise. However, without skills, your chances of securing a top job are limited. Here's why skillsets are important: ✅ It is more relevant to the job. ✅ Versatile and constantly in demand. ✅ Employers prioritize candidates with practical skills. ✅ Adaptable to different roles and industries. 𝘚𝘰, 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘐 𝘥𝘰 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘪𝘦𝘤𝘦? 🤔 • I started focusing on and developing the skills my industry requires. • I read more books to learn and discover these skills. • I took online courses to develop my skills. • I attended workshops and programs to gain industry insights. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝. So, my LinkedIn fam, I'll end by saying this: 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘦?🤔 Both skills and degrees have their merits and drawbacks. As fresh graduates, we've all been there - that feeling of uncertainty that comes with the question "What next?" It's completely normal to have such thoughts, but it's important to remember that it's just a step forward to something big. The real question is, what have you done to make your after-school life work or at least have a foothold on something? Personally, I believe that getting as much experience as you can while in school is key. Take advantage of the freedom you have in school and make the most of it. When that question pops up, at least you have a base, and what's needed is more effort, more push, and more discipline. So, what effort have you been putting while in school? What skills have you learned while in school? It's important to ask yourself these questions and take action towards self-development.
