Context: "I'm Willing to Ask for Help........" "Wicked men are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous stands firm." —Proverbs 12:7 In the months leading up to our wedding, we secured an apartment in which we'd start our new life together. I was going to move into our new place before the wedding and she would move in after we got back from the honeymoon. (A little old-fashioned in that way.......) She had been reminding me to get some people to help with the move and I said I would. I didn't try too hard and figured I didn't have too many heavy things anyway. One or 2 buddies did agree but no one showed up that day. So partly out of stubbornness and hurt feelings I refused to call anyone else. I ended up wearing my "soon-to-be: wife out, she wasn't pleased. That's often how I'll approach life, get mad and figure it out myself. Many times however my figuring out doesn't work real well. Its a default setting that I way too frequently resort to. Even at work I'll wrestle with stuff usually way longer than I need to. I'll usually tell myself that I just want to make sure that I've tried everything first before asking. Not always a good plan. Full transparence: this was my first year fully hosting Cranksgiving, and I made all the mistakes: -Committed way too late (a month and a half before the event), -Started promoting a couple weeks before the event (had to change the location), -Only sent out one press release and I think I even sent it out on a Friday, -Didn't personally reach out to any individuals in the media, -Didn't have a dedicated person to gather the media assets at the event (I had a person, but he got sick and I had a second person I canceled when I realized the turnout was going to be very low), -Didn't send out a post-event press release the same day as the event. Knowing what to do and being able to do it are two very different things. I got ZERO media coverage! This from a person who worked in media for two decades! The point of this: I feel you! Yes, it's hard. It's even harder when you're doing it alone. Even if you know what to do, if you don't have someone to help you, you're not going to get it done, I promise. But, even if you do everything wrong, you can still do something right, and this event is right for our community. So I've committed to doing it again.
